Hello i have an HKS SSQV bov. Now can anyone explain to me what a recirculation kit does? My cars rpm keeps dropping when i speed up real fast and then just push the clutch in and roll to a stop. My rpm will drop below 200 an either stall or like kick aback in and then rev to 1000 then idle back down at 500ish. They told me a needed a recirculation kit. I put it on and it seems to help a little bit but it still does die sometimes. What does the recirculation kit do?

Also i got a new exhaust Apexi N1 with downpipe now i was told that may cause boost leak. What is this and how will it mess up my car and can it be fixed?

Thanks guys!

1. When you dont vent your blowoff valve back into your intake you cause your car to run rich because the ecu is programmed to compensate with fuel the amount of air that your car would blowoff. This is unmetered air it is accounted for by just assuming that its coming in as it did from the factory, so by using a recirculation kit on your new blowoff valve you simply revert it back so that the ecu can make proper air fuel adjustments during shifts or whenever the blowoff valve vents.

2. Exhausts do not cause boost leaks, exhaust has nothing to do with boost leaks. Boost leaks are places in your intercooler piping (or anywhere else) that leak some of your pressurized air compressed by your turbocharger.

See thats exactly what i thought from the exhaust but someone told me it causes leaks. I was like well i don't know for sure so i better ask. Now as for the BOV should i keep the recirculation kit on? Is it that much better for my car? I do like the sound but id rather my car run right first. My check engine light did come on like a week ago or something and i took it to autozone and they did that check thing that tells why the light came on and it said "the fuel compensation valve for bank 1 exceeded the specified range. (bank 1 identifies the location of cylinder #1, while bank 2 identifies the cylinders on the opposite bank)
Thanks for ya time bro

That kit will put the metered air back into the system so that you don't run rich when you let the air out of the system. It sounds cool and all but your ECU thinks that air is going back into the system so you run big rich which is why you stall coming to a stop.

Well that sucks. But hey id rather have my car running good. So does this happen to everyone? Cause iv never heard of this before in my life LOL. Everyone I know that has a bov doesn't have the problem I have. Also is there anyway I can reprogram the ecu or get a race chip or anything I can do to fix it running rich without the recirculation kit?
Thanks for ya help bro

I just bought a DSM...i guess the guy who owned it before me was a complete ricer. The only modification this 1999 GST with 93k miles has is an intake and Greddy Type S BOV that vents to atmosphere. I know how the car drops its idle and all that...i plan on buying a recirculation kit so it doesnt run like garbage. My question is: does this cause the Service Engine Soon light to come on? my is on and the car is certainly not in limp mode. The transmission and everything runs fine, its just the idle of the car.

After I recirculated I have yet to see the check engine light, or have my car stall. Recirculating = the good. And if you have a Greddy RS it sounds like a turkey. :p

So yea i got the Recirculation kit and my car is running back at full power. And yes my check engine light did come on. What happens is the bov makes the car run rich. And this causes to much gas to enter the cylinder so the check engine light comes on to tell you that to much fuel is going through injectors. I'm getting my engine light looked at tomorrow so i will tell you if thats the answer for sure.

you have a greddy type s bov you dont need a recirculation kit. you can use the stock recirculation tube or make one yourself by using a radiator hose, that is what i did. go to an auto part store and buy a radiator hose and cut it so it fit nice and good.

i think im confused, so bear with me for a bit everyone. Isn't the BOV there to take added boost pressure out from between the turbo and the throttle body when the manifold shuts, this would stop the air from backing up and cause a turbo surge. So if your recirculating the air back into the intake system wouldn;t that defeat the purpose and the pressure would stay the same? So where exactly does a Resirulation Kit dump all the excess boost pressure? Thanks everyone, :rocks:

Back into your intake it will put all the air being vented through the bov.

As for the check engine lights, I just disconnect the battery for a few seconds and reconect it and it works just fine.

I'll step in on that 99 GS-T with the Check engine light. The 98+ eclipses actually rely more on sensors and the ECu than the older eclipses... for example, my 97 GS_T has three VAC hoses connected to the T.B a 98+ only has 2. The 98+ is more prone to sensing air problems.... my friend added his HKS and he's stubborn so he drives around blowing precious boost into the atmosphere.

Hope it helped

Also, like stated earlier, exhaust does not cause boost leaks. But will cause reduced performance of your turbo if you have cracks in the manfold or bad pre-turbo exhaust gaskets.
