I sent the Talon to be painted on Friday of last week. I ordered new front fenders and had all body damaged removed. I kept the car the stock white with the exception of having the spoiler and side view mirrors painted. The paint consist of a PPG four coat base with two coats of clear. I will have pictures of the car tomorrow. I wouldn't consider myself very knowledgeable about paints so if anyone would like to suggest something please feel free to let me know.

I'm an idiot when it comes to paint too.. how much are they doing it for?
Not trying to hijack thread as it might help you too, if I were to completely prep the car for paint (old sanded paint is the best primer, right? :p), except for mask everything off, then buy the paint and clear, how much would a nice paint job cost from a decent/reputable shop be?

If you are a pertfectionist, make sure they detail the paint afterwards. Get them to wetsand it up to 2000grit followed by a decent polish to get rid of orangepeel and dust nibs. Unfortunately most bodyshops won't polish your car and they send it out the door with orangepeel and dust nibs. I figure if your car didnt come out of factory looking like that, then why should it come out of a bodyshop looking like that? Shouldnt it be better? Just FYI. My car was repainted, very professional job for a very expensive price - the color wasnt what I wanted, orangepeel on the fiberglass pieces(metal surface turned out decent) and a handful of dust nibs - $6000 CDN. I had a car painted for $600 CDN, came out 150x worse. The more you pay the more you get. Hope this helps.

I installed the new fenders myself, very simple but the ends are razor sharp. I didn't have the slightest idea about the bodywork so I had this done professionally. I am hoping as next as the next that the paint job looks great. With bodywork, paint and new fenders I suppose I spent close to $1,100. I saved A LOT of money buy purchasing the fenders and installing them myself. I also removed all the lights, the spoiler and the side view mirrors.

I just got back from the paint shop to take some pictures. These were taken 1 hour after the paint was applied. I believe they still have to wet sand it. The spoiler and side view mirrors were removed so they could be painted properly. I will be picking up the car tomorrow to start assembly, I will have pics of the finished product later tomorrow afternoon. Please let me know what you think. Sorry about the quality of the photos, the camera is horrible.

:dsm: <----- Now I just need to find this Emblem.

Looks good and wow I never realized how much my pro kit actually dropped the car or is your car jacked up a little?

It's the stock height, I hate it too. I plan to lower the car on some sprints with Koni's in the front and AGX in the rear.

looks great :thumb: its about time for a cut and clearcoat for mine. luckily mom is a sec. at a pro body shop so its cheap for me :D

I was thinking about using the Emblem on the rear center section. The car doesn't have any other emblems on it currently. I am pretty much sticking with the simplistic approach with my DSM.

I think the emblem on the rear center would be kinda cool :thumb:
I took mine completely off (used to have two, don't know where they're at or I'd send 'em to ya :( ) and used some real carbon fiber pieces cut in the Mitsu symbol. Just an example of what you could do.

As promised, here are the pics of the car. I still have to a little work to do but I am happy. Let me know what you think, I want the Emblem on the rear as pictured below. To have the car painted it was a total of $433.77, not bad.

Looks real good. However, I would take the weights on the outside of the rims and have them reweighted on the inside. Other than that, that looks like a really good deal. :thumb:

I assume those weights are the metal tabs on the lips of the rim?

You washed it already? I didn't think you were supposed to do that for atleast a week or two after a car was painted? Or I'm just assumeing that's what the hose was out for.

I sprayed water on to get rid of the dust collected on the windows. I was told to wait 30 days before using any soap or wax. Is this true?

Here are a couplr new pics. I apologize in advance for the second one being blurry.

Washing does not matter. When we wetsand we are essentially washing the car, and then some, and we do this less than 14 hours after the car was sprayed. What you don't want to do is wax the car for a month or so. THe wax will trap in the solvents and the paint won't dry correctly. I think a good rule of thumb would be "if you can still smell the new paint then you shouldn't wax it".

Yes sir. And you can't weight the rims yourself so don't try doing something drastic. I almost did it myself when my dad saved me.

Nice paintjob. Your car is definitely looking clean. Just out of curiosity, where did you have the paint job done at? A local shop, or Maaco? I'm looking to have mine painted soon too. Maybe I'll save a few bucks and remove the lights myself also.
