To start off my modding im a bit short on money so i plan on just cleaning my new 98 GST up. I am cleaning air filter, changing oil, changing transmission fluid, getting new spark plugs, and want to get a new full exhaust system. I want to get an apexi N1 3" catback (turbo) exhaust.

N1 CATBACK EXHAUST by AutoDirectSave

I was wondering if this (3inch piping) would fit up against the stock turbo? I would also like some new headers as well if you guys have any suggestions under 300 dollars. Also any suggestions on new spark plugs? (one is acting up so im replacing them all) :hmm:

Additional info: $550 for the headers, exhaust and spark plugs. Thanks, cant wait to get started!

That catback system may bolt up but it is not a complete exhaust system. It will not replace the downpipe and o2 housing. These will still be restrictions. If I were you I would purchase a better flowing o2 housing then have a local shop build the rest of the exhaust. From what I know the 2g exhaust manifold flows well but if you are determined to upgrade I would look into the forced performance manifold. It seems to be a nice piece. They also sell the evo III o2 housing which should be an upgrade from the stock housing. For spark plugs ngk's bpr6es is popular.

I'd also like to note, that that isn't an a'pexi exhaust kit. "N1" is commonly used to describe the tip style.

in that product info page, near the bottom it says "N1 CATBACK EXHAUST by AutoDirectSave"

but either way, it looks like an alright kit for the money. piping looks a bit small to be 3". but it might not be a pic of the actual product.

I assume you want the tubular manifold?

When I researched mani's I was looking for the tubular header too but came out disappointed. With a tubular manifold the odds of cracking and fatigue are much higher than with a tough durable cast manifold. Remember, the manifold is holding a lot of hanging weight combined with vibration and high temperatures.

The Evo3 is the best stock manifold which flows good for at least 350-400whp and won't crack on you. You could always fab up a snazzy heat shield that will compliment and still keep engine bay temps down. The 2G manifold flows a lot and doesn't really become a restriction until higher numbers -lots of people are putting down big numbers with the stock mani.

If you do go tubular just don't get an eBay no name and you should be good for a few years :thumb:
