New fuel system, cant get below 60psi?

just got my walbro, afpr and injectors finished. With the afpr and injectors I was able to set the pressure at 43. got the walbro in, fired her up, and cant get below 60psi now, adjusted the whole way out. what didn't i do right, or what could i do better? I used the vaccum line the oem fpr was using, is this not a good source? it's the only thing i can think of....

tightening raises and loosening lowers the pressure right? Just want to make sure i'm not backwards. These parts never come with any instructions :p Either way it doesn't seem to make a difference either way it gets tightened. I had all kinds of adjustment with the afpr and the oem pump. But since I installed the Walbro, didnt even do the rewire yet, I can't get it to drop below 60psi at idle. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
 
Well, I verified tightening raises the fp. went from 60-90 for a second before i got it turned back down WTF On a good note there, I did not find any fuel leaks. So I got eveything installed tight (luckily). Also lost the ability to shift into 2 4 R. found that one of the tbolts on my IC piping was poking out into the counter weights swinging radius. oops.... moved the bolt and got all my gears back :coy:
Anyway. Any advice other than going out and getting a different AFPR? I'm sure that running it at 60 probably isnt a good thing. Although the car really does seem to run very well....
And I didn't run into any good info yet on weather or not the OEM FPR vaccum source is any good or if I should be getting vaccum from somewhere else. Thanks in advance from a learnin mitsn00b!:dsm:
 
Is the Ralliart FPR you have a REAL AFPR. Meaning, is it a unit that actually allows you to lower it beyond what the pump puts out? I was under the impression that it was only a rising rate.
 
well with the stock pump i was able to raise and lower the pressure. from like 30 on up. I didnt turn it above 43 because i thought that was where it was supposed to be. but i know that i had it turned down below that. is it possible that with the weaker pump it was doing its job, but because its a cheapy that it wont work with a good pump? thats kinda what i'm thinking. i double checked everything and my hookup seems to be correct. And since I cant find any real info on the thing i'm begining to think you are right. grrrrr.. I just didn't figure that you always have to spend more for a part to do its job. and I believe the advertisement did say that it allowed you to raise and lower the fuel pressure... it probably isn't the right part. i'm going to try to dig some more. thanx for the input!

Edit: Am I going to frag my car driving it like this, cautiously?
 
AFPR's are not something to skimp on. If someone else could chime in on the Ralliart one and confirm or deny what I posted that would help. If I was right, get an Aeromotive.
 
Agree with the aeromotive. Yes when running that much fuel pressure you could create problems. It can reduce the life of your injectors and by running that rich you could foul out plugs and sensors.
 
Check for a kink or obstruction in the return line.
If you can't lower below 60 its possible that either the bleed orifice on the FPR is WAY to small or the return is partially blocked. Is this 60 with or without vacuum?
