After 2 years of assembly and disassembly, changing config and parts its finally running. I have this ping (knock?) noise when the engine is under hard acceleration in the 1500-2800 RPM range. i will find a way to upload a vid of the noise soon. but this noise is loud enough to be heard in the car with windows up. also having random CEL thrown up. here is the setup

6 bolt block
8.5:1 JE Pistons .020" over
Hastings Plasmamoly file fit rings
Crower rods
Clevite 77 bearings all around
Head has been ported, polished
Ferrea 1mm Over valves
Crower springs
HKS 264/272 combo
AEM cam gears
Balance shafts removed
Rotating assembly balanced
ARP head, main, rod fastners.

The car idles fine, pulls hard after 3000rpm, not leaking fluids, not smoking, smells pig a$$ rich at idle. everything else is essentially stock, well everything else IS stock. Cams have been moved around but problem stays. I'm looking for possibilities, places to start searching for resolution.

pull the head and see if the pistons are hitting the head

thats a last resort cause its a b*tch, but i will mention that we used clay on the cylinders on assembly to check that and valve clearance.

if it was off enough for the valves to hit, the car wouldnt be running...its gotta skip 3-4 teeth before they hit and if u were off teeth u would know it, car would stutter and run very poorly

well we checked the belt, at TDC the marks are all lining up. The shop I brought it to says its the FPR. anyone experiance one going out?
