Well its been a good a year with my GST but finally upgrading to a GSX :hellyeah:
I picked a 99 auto for 1,500 with sunroof. Everything seems to work fine motor has about 150k miles on it so might be time for a rebuild soon but turbo does not have much shaft play and no leaks.Besides the lifter tick it has, the problem with the car is the transmission. Now I wanted to ask for a bit of input and maybe be lead into the right direction for what my problem might be.

here are the symptons,(check engine light is not on BTW)
When car is started up,I will put it into any moving gear to move the car and sort of "whining noise" will occur, but car will move. Then after about 3-5 minutes the whining noise will go away and the car will not move in any gear.A slight burning smell is present but this could be from the oil spilled in the engine bay (the previous owner tried putting the oil through the valve cover opening and somehow spilled it everwhere). here are my diagnosis on the problem after searching for hours on the auto tranny sub forum. Also noticed lotsof bubbles and somewhat dark fluid on the tranny fluid dipstick

-Draining and replacing auto trans fluid and filter
-Adjusting shift link cable (link or anyone know how to do this?)
-Torque Converter
-Trans pump
-replacing Auto Trans

I will be gathering my fluid and parts for this saturday and any ideas, suggestions or inputs on the problem would be greatly appreciated.Thanx :thumb:

Sounds like the auto tranny has been dogged on hard. Auto Tranny fluid should be bright red. My daily is an aut0. I have had it well over a year now and play in it sometimes. It doesnt shift hard and the fluid has not been flushed or changed in over a year and it is still bright red.

Your bands may be worn out that is usually what cause the fluid to turn brown. You might be looking at a rebuilt trans soon.

rebuild all the way your bands and clutches are pretty much gone..... Exactly what happened to my auto gst. It would start up and drive but started having trouble shifting after a couple of minutes then it stopped moving and then i smelled the trans fluid..... yikes. It was toast. Check out IPT for a rebuild kit and all the other parts you will need plus check out some mods to help like full line pressure.. Hope this helps man.

So I shouldn't even bother with replacing the fluid and tranny filter?when I searched a couple of posts popped up with the same similar problem as mine. Slight whining noise and similar symptons and changin and filter seemed to fix it. Good news is I found a used rebuilt tranny for 500. 400 without the tcu from a local dsmer who is converting to 5 speed. Would I need to buy the torque converter and tcu as well? Thanx alot guys
