Hey there. Im looking into buying this guys 1998 GSX. Motor was rebuilt and has 40k on it. It is running 10psi daily. The only problem is, when it gets to 5k rpm, it bogs down. He said it hasn't been professionally tuned though. So im wondering if this is the only thing that needs to be done. And if im not about to buy a car thats not gonna run past 5500 rpm. Im also curious, if it just needs a tune, how much psi and power this motor can hold without harming it...Here is a list of the mods.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Well first off why he is only running 10psi daily on a car built to handle high boost is cause for concern to me, if he is like anyone else that has there car built you don't run 10psi daily....obviously he built it to go fast sooooooo?

Bogging can be a couple of things, the most obvious of problems would be tuning, and or a major boost leak.

personally I would go back to him and tell him to turn up the boost, and if he says he can't because its not tuned, I would tell him to get it tuned then call you back.

Trust me you don't want to inherit someones problems, it is soooo much harder to figure out the problem if you don't know anything about the car.

my .02!

It took me forever to figure out what the hell was wrong with my gst when i bought it. it had tons of problems but luckily i found them all. My timing was even off:ohdamn: used modded cars can be very fail LOL.

My car was bogging really bad too. sometimes when i would go into partial throttle the car would turn off as soon as i let off. i had a massive boost leak *hole in a coupler* and the car needed a tune. have him give you the car 100% percent before you buy it. also, make sure the compression on the car is good. anything under 160-140 is no bueno:thumb:

Yeah especially on a 60 turbo, those 10 lbs are probably barely spinning the turbine wheel. LOL But at least it comes with 'audio and interior' haha j/k

150-160 I still consder having a very healthy engine. The real problem is when cylinders' compression vary dramatically between each other.

Well I'm not sure. Ill have to ask. I don't know much about cars, like I said I'm new to this. Is that motor built to withstand a lot of power? If so, how much psi could it handle safely? And does going 40 grand miles without a tune hurt it?

Well accroding to his list, Im assuming he has 2g pistons on 1g rods. These can handle 450+ hp so I guess youre all set with that. And as far as the tune, he's probably running the itty bitty 10 lbs for that very reason, there is no tune...I would say as long as the car stays in that range of boost, the engine is good to go.

Oh and what the heck is a downpipe routed to the exhaust??? I think you mean recirculated o2 housing. haha Dont worry man, we were all there at some point.

Well i just took the mod list he emailed to me and copy and pasted it. And i called and asked just exactly why he was only running 10 lbs. He said because the waste gate spring is only rated at like 9 or 10 lbs. I believe one that can handle more is very cheap, like 10 bucks and super easy to install. So that explains why. He has a manual boost controller as well. If i buy it, im gonna have to spend like 900 bucks to get it tuned...and i know nothing about boost controllers but he said ill need an electronic one to keep it runnin right. Any tips here fellas? I just wanna make sure this thing aint gonna blow up when i set it to a higher psi. How much do yall think this motor can handle psi wise?...safely
