New 4G63t Book

yeah but the book doesn't have one thing the site has. A-holes. Not everybody but just some people and the book will get you where you need to be from the start instead of asking alot of people just one question

Hey, found this thread looking for reviews of my book. I'm glad you guys like it. I went to Robert at RRE for technical advice and to check my research. The goal was to cover every version of the 4g6X engines with lots of info on the turbo versions, including evo.

I bought the book recently on Amazon and must say it is EXCELLENT! One of my DSM buddies just bought it after seeing it and last night at a mini- DSM meet I showed it to a couple guys who looked through it and are now planning to buy it as well.

This book truly is an excellent reference guide on the 4G63T engine and the DSMs, Evo's and a few other cars that use it.

This book is not a "substitute" to a car-specific forum with the wealth of knowledge available in that kind of environment nor is intended to be. But for a single-source reference where in one book almost every aspect of these engines is covered its simply fantastic.

Everything is covered from basics to more complex things about the engine. The color pics throughout are awesome and the writing style is such that even laypeople who are not mechanics (but with a basic understanding of engines) can grasp the concepts without being overwhelmed. Thats not to say its overly simplistic because its not at all. Anyone from a newbie to a certified mechanic or a prospective purchaser of a 4G63T based car would thoroughly benefit from this book.

Someone planning performance upgrades to a 4G63T based car especially should get this. It will save many times the cost of this book by following the very sound general advice and pros and cons of different performance path choices. The book does NOT try to steer someone to a particular brand or product in any way at all. It does however provide VERY accurate and correct information on the relative merits (or lack thereof) of various types of parts upgrade scenarios and paths.

This book is absolutely worth every penny of its price in my opinion.

PS: Just posted this short review at Amazon too. Its in the "review/approval stage" but should be up in a day or so.

I got a sneak preview of the book while it was still in the editing phase and I must say I really enjoyed it. Its a good book for the newbies looking to get more familiar but still a good read for the 4g63 veterans. More than a little how-to haynes manual, it's rich in history, little fact that aren't well known, and just all around a good read for the 4g63 enthusiast.

And I think I was referred to as the FNG in the book >_<

Yeah, that would be Garcia that called you that. I'm neutral.

Hey,

If you want to buy a copy send me a PM, I have a few that I will sell for a discount if you promise to put a truthful review on amazon.com. Unfortunately I already gave away all my free copies or I would offer some of those.

^ ^ ^
Crap I wish I would have saw this sooner....I just bought it for full price haha.

Nice book! it was a little smaller than I was hoping it would be. NEXT you should write a vehicle specific book for the DSM that covers the whole CAR front to back!!!

why not just scan and send it to all us dsmers ..

Damn dsmers are cheap but I didn't think they were THAT cheap. It's only $20 depending on where you get it, I bet you spent that much on dinner last weekend.

Seriously, I'll never get rich off this book but I do like to have the beer money :)

I would much rather make a donation to DSMTuners then pay for that book. This site has all the information you'd ever need. Take the money you'd spend on that (probably generic) book and make a donation to the site who deserves it.

X2, the books are great and all for the material that they do cover, however a book simply does not have the interaction that a forum does. For example, a book will tell you about how to modify your car... but what happens when something doesn't go as planned? On the forum you can research " I've done this mod, now this is happening, what do I do?" Now you have the resource to find other people to who have encountered this situation and what they had to do to remedy it. I'm not trying to bash the book(s), everyone needs a bathroom reader :sneaky: But if I was ever going to spend money on something to further my knowledge on our cars, I would put that money into the source that has already given me that and was free to begin with.

Just my 2 cents.

I have both books but i think that Mitsubishi & Diamond Star Performance Tuning: Eclipse, Talon, Laser 1990-1999 is the better book both are great bathroom reads:thumb:

Greetings Guys!

I just joined after seeing the great review of the book on Amazon. I am the sales manager at CarTech, the publisher of the book, and I am glad to see you guys like it. Good to see Robert on here too.

Books are never meant to replace forums. There are pros and cons to each, and if free is the main concern, books will cease to exist. Forums provide the open interaction and live feedback, while books can provide the expertise and compensation from and to experts like Garcia, who normally don't have time for forums. I hope that most can see the benefits of both and that we can continue to produce product like this in the future.

I would encourage anyone who bought the book, no matter where they bought it, to leave an honest review on Amazon. We take the feedback we get from there very seriously, and use the comments for future publishing and update decisions.

Thanks again for the support guys!

This book is a great find for beginers because it goes over the basics. I have this book and it has saved me from looking dumb on these fourms. It is also nice because it is greared twards the Talon and Eclipse vs other books that say 4G36T on it and it'a all about the EVO. So I highly recomend it for starters.

I'll be ordering mine as well. It's going to be an interesting read haha. I am pissed about the evo engine on the cover. Really they could have powder coated a DSM valve cover, and put a milled spark plug cover on it and called it a day. Bastards!
