2G New 2g Talon, with problems :(

Whatsup guys picked up my second dsm yesterday, an a/t 2g talon. Was running and driving fine until 15 minutes after I had gotten home. The radio turned and lights began to dim while driving. I figured it was the alternator. It was somewhat new according to the previous owner.

THEN in the morning; the car took a few tries to start up. Wouldnt even turn over at first. Now the idle is crazy, stays at 2k or jumps around between 1-2k. When driving it doesnt hold boost and barely gets past 30mph.

Havent checked anything out yet but I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

Hello, well the first issue of the radio and lights dimming sounds like i could be as simple as a bad ground issue. Check all your grounds from battery terminals to chassis ground points to ensure they are tight and not corroded. i had a similar issue once with my stereo shutting off, where it was simply the ground point where the negative terminal from the battery connects to the firewall was loose. Tightened it up and boom, fixed.

As for your second problem... I did'nt catch anywhere if your car was turboed or not... If it is, i would definitely start with a boost leak test first. Especially if your running a stock maf. Lots of pipes and couplers that could be loose between the maf and throttle body which could be causing allot of your symptoms.

So I'm assuming it's turbo.

Like already stated always do the easy steps first and get those checked off.
Check for loose grounds, if that turns out ok...take your alternator to an autozone and have them check it.

Honestly to me it sounds like your ecu may have craped out. As stated above check all the grounds first and do a Blt, then if that doesn't help see if you have a friend that will let you borrow a ecu to test.

Start by checking voltage.

Much, much later you can check to see if a boost leak is causing the radio to turn off. /snark

Thanks for all the help. Grounds were all good. It is the alternator for sure. I dont think there is any boost leaks but Ill check once I get the alternator.

Thanks again for the help, new alternator is on and runs great. Threw a CEL the next day though car still runs great except for a rough start when cold.

May be time for a new coolant temp sensor. Might wanna test yours out.

Go to your local auto parts store that lets you use a code reader free, like Napa.

Just as an FYI... I've read and seen with my own eyeballs where if the battery is not fully charged before slapping on a new alternator, you can actually fry said new alternator.

Could be the ISC. Mine did the same thing when it went out.

I charged the battery before starting it. Everything is fine now. All I need is link and big injectors before I can make 400ish.

And ill be getting dsmlink this week! (hopefully)
