neutral safety switch location

does anybody have a picture of the neutral safety switch on the automatic transmission on the 420a? im going to replace mine and I'd like to get an idea of where i need to look for it.

It is under the dash, way up there on the left side.
If you search you can find a thread with a picture of it.
That is for a 5speed, Im not sure about auto.

i looked up there but see nothing but wires running to the junction box and fuse box. Whats weird is when i look online and in my haynes manual the only information on the neutral safety switch that comes up is for a turbo. i know they are usually mounted under the shift linkage but on mine there is nothing there at all. I have looked everywhere on the transmission and cannot find even one 3 wire plug.

well i decided the part doesnt even belong to my car. I had to do some extensive research and on repair manuals it doesnt show a neutral safety switch on my car and the only information on adjusting or replacing one is for the 4g64 and the turbo models. So i looked up information on a sebring with the 2.0 because im pretty sure it has the same transmission as my car and there is not a neutral safety switch, instead there is a transaxle range switch which acts as the park neutral switch and the back up switch. as bad news gets worse i have to remove the valve body and range switch as an assembly.

so what did u end up doing, did you find it? Im going through the same thing looking for this park/neutral switch. I just want this check engine light off! Yet, I dont want to erase it, but clear it properly once I replace the switch. The image is from my officail Mitsubishi Motors service manual, its like 3" thick! In the pic, it looks like the new switch I bought and need to replace, but when i look at my engine, its not there.

well if yours looks like mine, its not like that diagram. it is the transaxle range switch that works as the park/neutral switch and the back up switch. It is vertically mounted on the front of the transmission INSIDE the valve body. I had to look up a 96-99 sebring or avenger with the 420a to find the right part. I have yet to buy the part or replace it because it requires taking the valve body off of the transmission so im still starting my car with a window switch.

here's a picture of the transaxle/transmission range switch on my 96 eclipse rs with the 420a automatic. it is in the lower right corner of the picture and has 9 wires on the connector. it is inside the valve body and acts as the park/neutral safety switch and as the back up switch.

well i finally got around to replacing the switch on my transmission about a week ago. took me about 2-3 hours not too bad of a job its like doing a transmission filter job and there are only 2 parts on the valve body that are free upon removal. now everything works as it should and no check engine light. for some reason that switch being bad caused my car to run rich but now i am getting good gas mileage again. although im replacing my plugs im sure they are fouled out.
