I spent most of last night doing searches, but I feel that this is a bit unusual. Last night, I finally got my 1992 Plymouth Laser N/T back after about a month and $2,200. The tranny had been replaced with a "suspected" good one from the local salvage yard, and the engine had to have some repair done as well. I wanted to go test it out so I hit the highway. The first thing I noticed that when the auto shifted into third, even at low speed, it seemed to kick back and go hard into gear. I had O/D off at the time and when I got up to around 65 I engaged the O/D. It went into the proverbail "4th" gear pretty easily and I was getting up around 75 just cruising. The next thing that happened was the transmission shifted by itself back into third. It went back up into "4th" for a few seconds, but then again went back into third and acted like it was not there. O/D button on or off made no difference. First and Second still shift like butter, smooth as all give out, but third still kicks, and O/D is just gone.
When I was searching forums last night, I saw that when O/D gives out, the car imitates like it is in neutral and revs high, but won't convert the power to the wheels. Mine is not behaving like that, Third gear still engages. I also saw that when O/D just quits, sometimes the fuse that controls the reverse lights has toasted out, but my fuse still works. So here are my questions:

What does this sound like the problem could be?

Is there a chance that ordering the reinforced end clutch kit, and the translab shiftkit will be beneficial to my situation?

If I have been vague or unclear on any part, please let me know. Thank you for the time and information.

You could try the end clutch kit, but the shift kit will only make your shifts slam harder..

Pls someone explain this to me... Because I found this is what mine is doing. I'll just be cruising along and then all of a sudden it's just revs. O/D is on at all times (switched on i mean) Only does it pretty much "4th" or O/D. So what I do is put the car into 2nd gear, it catches fine and then shift it back into drive and it works fine again. Both times it has done this my stereo was up loud. Could my system be affecting the TCU? Is my O/D gone?

This tranny shifts a little hard but it doesn't slip at all any other time.

Pls don't give me "Take your system out". Thank you, this would be great appreciated otherwise it goes in Autotrader tonight and I say forget this and buy a daily driver and do my 1g project down the road. PLEASE someone give me some insight.

stick, if you have a datalogger and can read the tps sensor you my see it doing some crazy sh*t ,when i first got my car i noticed that the the tps had become covered in oil at some point in time by a blown pcv valve hose. not giving a damn about it at the time i drove the car around for a few days after i got it and sure 'nuff the tranny started doing some crazy sh*t , so i asked around to some friends of mine at local tranny shops and one guy told he had seen one do the same stuff and guess what ,he said the tps had been covered in oil and was shorting out so i hooked up the datalogger and drove around and the tps would jump from 33% to 98% at a steady pedal cruise and the whole time the ck engine light never even flicked on. so take your logger and check you tps or if you dont have a logger you can check it the haynes maunal way.also try to pull codes from your tcu too. :thumb:

Alright, went and did the diag with a multimeter. It seemed to flash real quick on a lot of random numbers but always seemed to build up to Code 11, which is Excessive Large TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) output. I am using an auto-range sensing multimeter, and I hope that isn't throwing my readings off, but 11 is the highest number it went to.

For that kind of money, I would have drove it to the shop and started WW3.

Suspected good tranny. from a junk yard. wtf..
