hey guys i just got my bonus from work, was gunna purcase a supra but we got far less then expected. so ive decided to keep my 99 gsx 38k miles eclipse =)

im gunna get all regular maintence taken care of then its upgraded turbo time!!

basically im a total newb on these turbos available for our cars. i want one that will spool almost as fast as stock or faster (if thats possible) . ill be running 93 octane pumpgas and id like somewhere between 400-500ish HP

is that evo turbo a good option? ive driven an evo before but i would want alittle more power then that.

i have alittle over 4,000 to spend what are all the support mods and shit that ill need to keep my car running safe.

thnx guys! sorry for my newbness but i just wanna make sure i do this RIGHT the first time =)

Joshua, how about using the "Shift" key and proper grammer every once in a while? That would be great.

Four grand, huh? To hit that kind of goal you will probably spend all of it and then some. How about saving some (if not most) of that extra cash for inflation?

That's not what you want to do, I know.

First of all, you have a lot of hard work and learning ahead of you. I know of no one who is a "newbie" and can tune their ride to produce 400-500 whp. No one. Simply bolting parts together won't get you too far. There is a whole lot more that needs to be taken accounted for.

To answer your other question - turbochargers are all about give-and-take. I personally don't know of any turbocharger that spools faster than the T-Too-Small. What am I trying to say? Well, larger turbochargers generally have slower spooling characteristics when compared to smaller turbos. However, there are tricks-to-the-trade of speeding up and maintaining the spool characteristics of larger turbos. Superchargers, on the other hand...

But let's work with what ya got.

Just considering the turbocharger, you probably want to think of a 50-Trim (or similar) as a general goal. But this DOES NOT mean you should go out and purchase a 50-Trim and slap it in your engine bay. You need to do your homework. You should look through the "Upgrade Path" in the Tech section on DSMtuners.

You should also plan on unexpected costs, like transmission work. Your plan will not be cheap. Your plan will not be easy.

Hope that helps.

An evo is a lil small for the 400-500 range. Any turbo that makes power is gonna have less lag than stock. But the lag they have isnt really that bad.
I would go with 60-1, mbc, 750cc injectors, a full exhaust, dsmlink, walborro 255, and a afpr, plus tune.
That should get you to at least 400.
Before you buy anything tho, go throught and do some research, this question plus many more you will have most likely have been answered.

Ha! In yo face, Chad! :p

About the 750cc injector suggestion - If you choose DSMLink, go with the biggest injectors your budget can handle.

I have a 98 GSX and the turbo i am going with is the BigT28 from Forced Performance. With all the supporting mods, a good tune, and the right driver, they have gotten their FULL WEIGHT GSX into the high 11 second range. It also is made out of the T-25 housing so it looks exactly like stock and spools almost just as fast. If you have that much to spend then spend an extra 100 bucks and get the thing ported as well.

I doubt that a t28 will get into the 12's at this altitude.

The fact that the exhaust side is so small makes the turbo run out of steam very quickly.

True That. I went 13.4 numerous times (probably 3-4 times in 1 TNT) @ 102ish full weight, but that Big28 would never crack a 12 for me....So after 2 FP Big28's and 1 Evo III 16g GT and still no "No NOS/pump gas/full weight 12 second slip"...I am jumping to a even bigger turbo to combat the DA (density altitude) we have here.

Not to rain on your parade, but the FP Big28 is a great AutoX turbo, but lacks Big Street Nuts.

Go bigger for sure.
