still debating whether or not to attempt the belt and water pump etc myself. but im this close to saying f*** it and going to a shop. i found some local mechanics that will do it for me for a reasonable price. so i need some of your input folks

$340- AFTERMARKET PARTS- timing belt, water pump, seals to stop oil leaks, and other misc maintenance things (i think he mentioned coolant and something with radiator)

$420- OEM PARTS- same as above

$400- still need to check if OEM or aftermarket- timing belt and water pump... gotta ask about the seals and whatever else.

considering the above deals, which do you think i should go with? does aftermarket vs oem really make a difference? THANKS GUYS

just had mine done. replaced both belts, tensioner, brand-new waterpump, and yeah they added coolant because obviously they had to drain it first. My guy actually changed my oil for free as well(Pennzoil Oil is awesome, less lifter tick). Cost me $1100 Cdn(800-900US).

The car's a 92. I'm guessing second belt job, which would put it over 100,000 miles. Do you really think you'll be driving it another 50,000? I wouldn't even blink about aftermarket.

Those are great prices for California, especially Bay Area. Are these real shops, or a couple of Pacific Rim folks in a shed?

what do you mean you wouldnt even blink about aftermarket parts? are you saying you would go w/aftermarket or you would not?

ya these are prices from real shops. this is just for timing belts, water pump, and seals remember (and whatever other necessities that go with those). i found them on www.craigslist.org. a lot of them are shatty shops owned by people who can hardly speak english, but the one i would go with (the $400 one) is run by sum1 who doesnt as "4cyl or 6cyl?" when i say "eclipse gsx." he says they only use OEM parts and will do belts, pump, and seals for me for $400 out the door.

will i be driving it another 50k miles? maybe maybe not. hopefully not. already running near 165k. hopefully i can tune it up and part it out or sell it before it hits another 50k and hopefully i can finance or lease an evo :D
