420A Need help with engine noise

I recently bought a 98 Eclipse GS from an insurance auction that was listed as a recovered stolen vehicle. I bought it hoping it was free of any major mechanical issues as it had no accidents and only 115k miles.

Unfortunately when I started it up there’s a bad screeching noise and significant movement of the engine. I took off all the accessory belts and even changed out the crank pulley with a brand new one but the issue is still there.

Hoping to avoid an engine tear down but I have a feeling that’s where this is headed. Any info helps, thanks!

Have you checked the level and condition of the engine oil? It almost sounds completely starved. And struggles to run.

It's almost impossible to call out the exact issue from your video, but it does not look or sound healthy. I hear knocking and screeching which could be a total lack of lubrication. Hopefully it isn't too far gone if that's the case.

Also, is this an automatic or manual transmission? I've seen and heard something similar when flywheel bolts were coming loose. It creates a major imbalance and metal on metal scrubbing.

Regardless, this needs to be diagnosed and addressed immediately.

Yes there looks to be pretty fresh oil in it.

Yes it is a manual.

I’m going to drop the oil pan next and hopefully it’s not sparkly…
