I'm gonna order one soon for my 97 GS but since there gonna build the engine from the ground up what should I have them do to it so its ready for a turbo once I get it. I want this to be a strong 420a engine.

What do you want to do to the car?
What do you want it to run?
What kinda boost you looking at?
What kinda times do you want to run?
What would you like it to be as far as HP/TQ Numbers?

You're leaving alot of information out.

Sorry about that I want to take her to 300 hp I'll probly go 250 and be there for awhile and then when I get some more money saved up take her to 300 and I would be happy with 300 hp.

not to hop in someones elses thread, but im in the same boat , i was gonna turbo it , and let that be that , but with 130+ miles , i believe i want a new engine , what else is needed with howell's crate motors, and what compression would i want , i want it to be kinda realiable, i dont wanna hafta turn on a laptop or any hi tech crap just to drive it , LOL , and not push to much psi , maybe like 10 ? im not into drag and 1/4 times , it just needs alittle more getty-up and go to beat the ricers that buy the autozone apc sticker and think their coo , btw , i want the hrc stage 2 i guess , with 255 fuel pump and 550 injectors maybe ? any help would be greatly apperciated , thanks

You will want to go with the 8.6:1 compression pistons with their bottom-end crate motors. That compression ratio is more turbo friendly than a 10.5:1 ratio. Other than that, I believe their site says what info they need from you.

From there the motor itself should be able to handle most everything that you could throw at it. You will need to upgrade the fuel system to handle the boost you want to run. There are many ways to do this.

One example is to get a Vortech SFMU Fuel Pressure Regulator. Injectors, usually not larger than 440cc or you may start running into problems with idle etc. A higher flow fuel pump would be a good upgrade too. Keep in mind that this will only allow you to run to a certain boost level depending on how you tune it. It is a great starting point until you want to move to something better like an 8 injector setup that a lot of people are running over at 2gnt.com.

More air = More fuel.

The only option on the site is compression. What other options should there be? Im thinking of buying the Crate Motor w/ 8.6:1 compression and a star stage 1 (and add a intercooler my self). Will stars fuel system be good enough (for around 10-14 psi) or will I have to upgrade what they give me.

You will most likely have to upgrade the fuel system to run anything over what Star says the system is designed for. Your motor will be able to handle more hp, but you still have to upgrade the fuel system accordingly to keep your new motor happy. Just becasue its forged doesnt mean that it wont ever blow.

Yes you will have to upgrade the star fuel system to run 14-15psi. All star's "fuel system" is, is a vortech 12:1 fmu. All it does is add fuel at a 12:1 ratio to your boost. I run 18psi on my star kit with the 8 injector set up John mentioned above. It's a good system and you don't have to program it everytime you drive. You could also buy a SFMU and use it and new injectors to get up to 15psi.
