ok got two cars here. a 95 gst and a 95 gsx. I had a POS aftermarket pinorer ( spelt it wrong i know ) in the 95gsx and it worked fine. the gst didnt have a radio so i basically picked on up off a guy on here who sent me the stock radio with the code and the code works. ok now to my questions, ive been swapping the stock radio back and forth all night and its on and working but im getting NO sound whatsoever, not even static. When i turn the volume up nothing happens not even a reading of it going up or down, just nothing. My gsx does not have the factory amp. its gone and not under the seat. from the POS radio there is one wire running into the depths of the dash and console and im assuming thats hardwired into the speaker system. thus where it gets the sound. The gst is compeletly stock and has the amp under the seat and all the hook ups. this car should be a direct hook up for this stock radio and yet still no sound. everythings pluged in i checked three times

so how can i test output? how can i figure out what is not working wither it be the stock radio, the amp, or the speakers.

is there a certain voltage that should be running from each unit?

Id like to get the gst ( with all the componets ) working first. then i can worry about getting a cheap amp and wiring my gsx correctly.

thanks guys for the help in advance

Well at first you can check if you placed the cables ok, and every wires are in mounted good. Check for shorts.
If that is ok, check up the wires and if the head unit has it's focus. So it's connected to a ground point.

Then you can also try and measure your cables and connections if they receive any power or voltage or have a resistance.

Think this might do the trick ;)
Installed some audio systems quite few times and worked fine.

Your headunit needs to receive it's voltage from the battery.
So the cables must have a voltage which resembles your battery voltage.
12.3 to 14.7 volts here.
Thought it was the same for headunits and subs.
Correct me if i'm wrong!

Also you can check your fuses :thumb:
Goodluck!

He's saying he's turning up the volume so that means the cd player is coming on, which I would assume he has power...just no signal to speakers...

yes the entire unit has power so the fuses are fine

Is the oem head unit an infinity? If so you must have the amp.

yes its the oem unit -- and yes there is the amp in the gst and all the wires are still hooked up and in the right places -- whats the odds of this amp being fried? is there anyway to test it to see if it works?

I'd trace wires back from each speaker if you've only got one coming from the console, so the harness is gone??Sounds like you'll be rewiring speakers...easy stuff though..

the stock harness is all there in both cars. the gsx has a adapter unit hacked in for the pioneer deck and this has One wire leading into something deep into the dash, its hooked up and hacked into this adapter unit and wires. my dad and I have deduced that this is the speaker hook up. its the only wire that could actually send signal anywhere from this POS

I agree with the tracing wires back but it seems the stock wiring harness isnt tampered with. both cars have direct plug ins and all the required plug ins for the stock infinitty unit.

what voltage should the head unit be sending to the speakers? if theres a voltage it should be putting out and something i can follow and read that will at least tell me if theres a signal going out

Test the speaker wires for power after the harness, any power??Test for power with multimeter after the amp to speakers...and yes check fuses for sure...

ok ill grab the multimeter tom morning and give it a look and report back

if theres only one wire going to the "speaker system" from the head unit then something isn't right. the back of your head unit should have 8 wires that are outputs for speakers, one positive and one negative, for EACH speaker.

thats what I was wondering his post made it seem like the harness was completely missing no speakers no nothing...he says its there though...that's why I'd trace from each speaker back to amplifier and then to cd player...takes a bit of time but well worth it...

Maybe i missed something here but if there is only 1 wire, how is the radio even getting power? You need power, ground, illuminary/memory and then the 8 speaker wires. Anyone have a wiring diagram of a stock 2g radio harness?

Well if its the stock radio and the car no longer has the amp, you might need get that back the speakers orignally ran off the amp if theres red and white rca cables those are what feeds the sound to the speakers.

Since there is power, your issue lies in the wiring. If your hear nothing even with radio on more than likely there is a short.

+1 on multimeter. You're not sure what problem is so, make sure speakers work w/ multimeter.
If speakers work but no sound. Thats one of three possible issues.
a. Need to rewire and possibly replace wiring.
b. Headunit is trash
c. a power wire is exposed and grounding out somewhere. <--doubt it

RESOLVED

ok sorry about the 1 wire thing, the pinoeer was hooked up to the original harness with an adapter, thus why it was working.

I moved the pinoeer over to the gst and hooked it all up and she worked great, no issues.

So got that car all set.

Now my gsx didnt have the amp under the seat but the gst did. When i went to plug the stock radio into the gst with all the wires and evertyhing, it didnt work. So my father and I figured the amp was shot.

None the less, i yanked the seat out and got the amp out and plugd it into my gsx. I pluged the rest of the stock infinity radio back into the gsx and presto it worked great.

The only thing i can figure is that the fuse for the amp in the gst was blown or pulled. so no more issues, thanks for all the help guys

moderator you can pull this thread, id put a huge resolved there but i dont know how

thanks again for all the wiring help
