I beleive my CV joint is going out, I took off the front passenger side wheel and looked at it. didnt see any cracks in the boot going towards to rotor, but I was wondering if I should be able to slide the boot back a little bit seeing the inner ?spline? or actual rod of it it? is this normal? TIA!

If it is I was thinking of greasing it up what would I use ?

WEll I had someone sis in the car and turn the wheel I can clearly see the boot needs to be replaced the question now is can I just replace the boot?

You can just replace the boot but I wouldn't recomend it. You already have a bunch of crap in there so replacing the boot will just keep more crap from getting and the stuff already inside will still wear away away your cv joint and you will end up replacing the entire thing.

if its making noise youll need to replace the whole axle.theres probably a lot of junk stuck in the grease and its a pita to clean it out.

if they are making noise its already too late to just replace the boots.

I recommend raxles.com :thumb:

OK, that happened to me too after I had mine replaced. There are metal bands that wrap around the ends of the boot to hold it tight so that it wont move or slide around. Sometimes those metal bands come loose or break off and that allows the boot to move around freely. It is possible for the boot to slide back and expose the joint. If this happens repeadily for a long period of time, it is possible for all of the grease to be spun out of the boot and for dirt and debris to get into the boot and in the joint. That could cause the joint to slowly wear and eventually fail.

Pull the boot pack and see if there is any grease in it.
If not, notice if there is any dirt and/or debris.

If they are dirty, then you will probably have to replace them.
If there is still grease in them and they appear to be clean, get ahold of some automotive grease (if you cant find any, PM me, I have some) and pump some in there just to 'top it off', and then resecure the boot so that it does not slide around. :thumb:
