so, ok. correct me if im wrong but here's my situation. i have a 93 talon es. it recently got wrecked. (backended. . . insurnace considered it totalled, but i bought it back for 100 bucks cuz it's mostly still driveable). my mechanic has a friend who has a 93 talon that either needs a new head (blown timing belt), or a whole new motor. my dilema is, if it's a tsi and it needs a new head. could i take the head of my engine, put in the stock turbo cams, and call it good? OR if it needs a new motor, could i pull the turbo internals and put them in mine?

any help would be great. thanks.

oh. . . ps

would it be a better idea to not bother with the engine/head swap at all. (the busted one im buying is like 100 bucks too) or should i just sell what i have and get something better. ie, a tsi or gsx thats working properly. :talon:

the talon i have is an es, 2.0 dohc.

if i needed to though, would it be an option to pull the torbo internals out of the old engine and put them in mine? or would it be a better idea to just save a little more for a tsi? :talon:

OMG :thumb: ok, i found a 92 tsi, perfect exterior. . . for 1800.

im test driving it tomorrow, and more than likley buying it. i don't care if it needs work. i can do that all myself. and the cash ill save buying one for 1800 will mean i have about 800 bucks for repairs/begining mods.

thank you all for your help.

you just blew the rear end...just so you know! (even if you disconnected the driveshaft)

Towed it to the track prolly 5 times like that last year. I must be doing pretty good running lo 7's in the 1/8 letting off with a blown rear end. Disconnecting the driveshaft allows you to tow the car like that.

the car needs a new 3rd cyl fuel injector, and maybe a new head gasket.

otherwise, the current owner just replaced, brakes, ecu, radiator, plugs and wires, timing belt, and some coolant hoses.

it's a 92 tsi awd AUTO. . . not too pleased with the auto part. but i figure it will be cheaper by a ton to do a manual conversion, rather than turbo-ing a NA car.

exterior is imaculate, as is the interrior. boost pulled real nice even with a misfire in the 3rd cyl (bad injector). . .

still sound like a good deal for 1800? . . . he also has kong rims, and brand new yokohama tires in it.

if you dissconnect the driveshaft it allows the rear to free spin dissconnected from the t-case. the rear wont be connected to the rest of the drivetrain at all. i had a all time 4wd jeep on 35's i towed liek that also, never borke a thing because the rear was able to spin freely.

even if he had a locked rear end the oen tire would just skip to catch the other. if it didnt then it would block, but tsi didnt have a locked rear end
