Mystery "X" Brand Coilovers

I've never been a coilover guy whatsoever. For me, it's always been about power, power, and more power. Well, a small part of my mind has changed when I took a ride in my friend's EVO VIII that has a really nice coilover set-up. I just couldn't stomach the amount of money he paid for them because my mind always took me to the fact that I could get a beast turbo for "x" amount. In March of this year, I bought myself a 1G and immediately started buying part after part to get it to the point where she's very spirited while driving. It already came equipped with the AGX shocks so I thought that the most of the suspension side of things were/are taken care of. Well, in the midst of searching the ads for more parts, I ran across a set of coilovers that were selling for $100. Based on what I know coilovers cost for an EVO, needless to say, I was very skeptical. So I thought, "What the heck? It's only $100." So I bought them about a week ago. Before I have them installed, I thought I'd see what is the general thought about these coilovers. I have absolutely no idea what brand they are. I decided to take several pictures to see what you fellahs think and if they are worth it. I'd be very interested to hear from you fellahs that have these coilovers installed and what your feedback is. My gut is telling me that these are hot off of the Chinese market and are terrible quality and not worth installing. I just want to make certain that these jokers don't self-destruct while I'm on the highway and I make the news. WTF Well, I've covered just about everything. Here are the pictures. Not trying to start a flame war but im just curious as to what proof you have other than the fact that they are of low cost?

I want to say my friend had something like these for another car. I remember a crap load of o-rings. I believe he eventually made them fit on his car. With in a few weeks he was having issues. The allen screw holes went to shit. They were noisey and the adjusters locked up on 1.

Coil overs are pricey but offer more real adjustablity. Also gotta love front camber adjustment.

So far, so not so good, I see. Maybe someone will chime in that installed these jokers with their firsthand review. It looks like the balance is starting to sway towards throwing these in the trash can. Maybe those AGX shocks aren't so bad after all.

As I was reading this for the first time I was already picturing the exact same pics you posted. Those are probably ebay specials, correct? If not, then you probably bouight them from somewhere that also supplies ebay with their garbage products.

I had these on my old 1g. The allen screws stripped, they oxidized like a mofo, and they pretty much killed my shocks withing a few months. The stance looked very aggressive, which was great but you don't want to roll like a Honda (all looks and not functionality). For the fronts, I had to cut off the lower part of the spring seat on the shock so the coilover itself would sit at the lowest part of the shock, otherwise the coilover wasn't lowering the car at all (even with the adjusting nut all the way at the bottom.

Good luck aka don't use them.

My friend, I wish there was a level below newbie as that's where I am when it comes to coilovers and suspension. Like I said, lowering springs was the extent of my expertise as I'm one of those "powah" guys. Install them with..., HA! I'm not installing nothing that deals with suspension. I'm hoping to find someone here in Arizona (assuming that I keep these jokers) to do it for me and I supply the funds.

To know what I'm about to post before I post them is on that Miss Clea fortune-teller level, you know? EBay specials? Heck, I don't know. I figured that due to the asking price of $100 that I'd take a shot at them being some "alright" coilovers that would be a little better than the AGX shocks/springs that are currently on the car. This was/is the kind of review that I thought I'd get.

Seal kit? My friend, I have no idea what that is nor what it looks like. I just thought it would be best if I posted as many pictures as possible so that you fellahs could give me your candid feedback.

Keep the AGX and whatever springs you have for now. Look into sway bars, poly suspension bushings, and decent tires. That will be a better start than condemning your Talon to ebay garbage.

Think about the value of a properly functioning suspension, it could be worth your life.

I see no marking on the springs, and based on the other feedback in here, I wouldn't put the trash can through the pain of holding them. Launch them into the sun, ASAP.

When you do go coilovers, skip the AGXs as well. I have Yellows/GCs up front and AGX/GC in the rear. The AGXs just don't feel good on the street. They're stiff on full-soft with reasonably soft spring rates.

Read the suspension sticky in this forum before wasting any more $$.

Then my one of my less than knowledgeable buddies asked me to install a set on his 2g N/T. It was the most miserable experience I have ever had. It took use about 6 hrs to get them installed after we had everything taken apart.

The ride quality was worse.
They did lower his car.
Adjustment was a PITA.
Its been about 3 months and the allen head adjustment screws are corroded over. And his car just rides like shit and still has a good bit of understeer.

I'd keep the sleeves, and then buy a good set of hyperco springs with healthy spring rates.

And those rubber O rings are to go in between the sleeve and the shock to stop rattles.

GC coilovers are "sleeve type". They are proven and win events.

Prepackaged coilovers aren't all they are cracked up to be. Some "competing" brands are said to even come from the same Chinese factory. If you're trying to come in around a grand, a GC/Koni/Hypercoil/DG upper setup is the way to go.
