My T4 turbo is too big

I just bought a brand new T4 BorgeWarner turbo from a friend of mine, rated at 550 - 600 HP... I took the turbo and FMIC down to my performance shop and they said the turbo was way too big for my engine... They said I needed to either go with a big 16G or buy an exhaust manifold because the exaust end of the turbo was huge and my spooling would take up to 6K or 7K RPM's to fully spool.....I redline at 8K so it would be pointless to have such a big turbo.... I currently have INJEN shortram intake, HKS SS BOV, APEXI N1 exhaust and downpipe..... What do you think I should do???

I am by no means an expert but any turbo bigger than a T-28 or 16G is gonna be severly restricted by your lack of fuel mods and fuel control. I would say sell the turbo, and by an evo3 16g. If you are more daring or you have alot of cash than go with any of the 50 trim setups that guys are running successfully on this board. Hope this helps, Matt :dsm:

You can run the T4 after you build a 2.3 or 2.4l engine with forged internals (or 2.0l w/nitrous to spool the T4), get at least a walbro 255hp, at least 660cc injectors, a big frontmount, DSMlink or a full standalone, a wideband O2 sensor, 272/272s or equivalent, and a T4 exhaust manifold with external wastegate. Also upgraded tranny & driveline parts if you don't want to break stuff. :thumb:

If you don't want to do all that, then sell the T4 and get supporting mods for a 50trim setup, or a evoIII 16G.

There's no reason to build a 2.3 or a 2.4 to spool a T4. I'm running a 2.0 with no nitrous, built engine, standalone, and I'm making 20psi by 5k. Shifting at 9200. Let's not get off topic though, this guy doesn't need to be running any make of T4. On your stockish engine, a 16g or 50 trim would be a good upgrade. Keep in mind you're still going to need fuel and intercooler upgrades.
