I have my heart set on a particular rim for my 97 GS and I have been reading all of the newbie wheel and tire threads and I looked at calculators but I just cant seem to get my head wrapped around understanding it all.

The wheel is XXR 522 Concaved Supremacy

and the size I want is 18in but here's the problem, I am only able to find this wheel in 18in size in only 2 offsets:

XXR 522 18x8.5 Gold 5-100/5-114.3 [+48mm]

and

XXR 522 18x8.5 Gold 5-114.3/5-120 [+30mm]

Will either of these fit or should I just look for another wheel?

It also comes in 17in:

XXR 522 17x8 Gold 5-114.3/5-120 [+35mm]

XXR 522 17x8 Gold 5-100/5-114.3 [+48mm]

XXR 522 17x9 Gold 5-114.3/5-120 [+25mm]

XXR 522 17x9 Gold 5-100/5-114.3 [+42mm]

and 19in:

XXR 522 19x8.5 Gold 5-114.3/5-120 [+15mm]

XXR 522 19x8.5 Gold 5-114.3/5-120 [+38mm]

So I am asking all of you experienced DSMers Eclipse Owners and Wheel Experts what are my options here?

Those are your best options the 48 offset is higher than our stock offsets

^^ While I'd agree with that, you need to consider tire, height, alignment, etc as well.

I guess you COULD just drive on the wheel, but...

I'd stick with the 17x8 -35mm. You can still get a thick enough tire on there to retain some ride comfort and the offset isn't bad.

If the 18's do not work out for you, I just bought 17x7.5 AR rims with Hankook Ventus V12 215/45s. The ride is comfortable and performs much better than the stock tires. 17s look a lot larger on these cars than you might think.

18 x 8 +30's will fit with a 225/40/18.

The problem is if you plan to drop the car.

17's are nice, 18's sacrifice some ride quality, and 19's are expensive for tires, but look absolutely Bada55.

I love aggressive fitment, but i'm not a huge fan for stretching tires.

On my 95 GSX with spacers, and playing with the offset to get what i wanted. I managed to fit 19 x 8.5 (f) with a 235/35/19 and a 19 x 10 with a 265/30/19 Volk GT-7's ( pics in gallery) Oh yeah on a 2" drop

On my 2k Miata, I run 15 x 8 +0 205/50/15 with Flares. 1.5" drop -1 deg of camber in the front, and -1.5 in the rear. ( i also have a set of XXR 522's 15 x 8 +25's and they are a heavy rim, Something close to 18lbs each. My Axis Sakura's in 15 x 8 weigh in at under 14 lbs)

Biggest question is...how much "winter" time does your car see, and how are the roads where you live? I live in sunny CA, and the roads are in pretty good shape. The larger the wheel, the smaller the Sidewall, and therefore a greater chance of blown tires, and bent rims.

Maybe this will help you understand what offset means.

Stock 2g wheel offset is +46 mm (about 1.8") on a 16x6 wheel. So zero offset would mean that from your hub mounting surface the wheel will stick in towards the knuckle 3" and stick out from the hub to the fender 3". Stock is +46 or 1.8" so you would add 1.8" to the knuckle side and subtract it from the fender side. Pretty easy math that you can just use a tape measure to see how the wheel will sit in the wheel well.

Lets take the 17x8 +35 wheel as an example.
Zero offset would be 4".
Offset is 35 or about 1.4". Add that dimension to the knuckle side of your tape measure. So the wheel would stick in towards the knuckle 5.4" from the hub mounting surface. Now measure up from the center of the hub half the distance of the wheel diameter of 8.5". Now measure in the 5.4" towards the knuckle from the 8.5". That is how far in the wheel will stick in.

He said he had already used some calculators but still didn't really get it. Betting he is more of a hands on learner and thought actually doing it manually would help him figure it out.

That's a pretty nice calculator. I had one that I can't find now that you could play with comparisons of wheel size, offset, wheel width, tire size, and it even gives the difference in dimensions, revs per mile, speedo differences, and a picture comparison that you could layer the two different wheel tire combinations to see differences. Have to find it again and stick it in my folder.

Another thing to help the OP is you can look up your tires on the tire rack once you figure out what size rims Fuzion UHP and get any dimensions specific to your tire.

Yup, that's the one. Mods should make that a sticky....might solve the "will they fit" thread cancer running rampant.
I've posted that, and others, bout fiftyeleven times. The site could have the link literally reach out and bi***-slap a person...they'd still ask.

They'd still refer to wheels as "rims", too. OMG:p

I'm so Busted for that.

What about enkei rpf1?????

The calculators listed above apply to any WHEEL, from 10" to 30"

You guys are the best - the explanation 2slow4now provided and the calculator from fwbt help me to understand it better now. I really appreciate the help. When I get the wheels mounted on the car I will post detail pics of how it sits in the wheel well on the front and back sides. :thumb:
