I had planned on making this blog once the car was complete from start to finish. But I decided I would give the info so far and post up some pics at a later date. I ran across this car sitting in my friends driveway. It was covered with a tarp and I had failed to realize that it might be a turbo model.

The car set in that spot for many years. Last summer my friends mother asked me to come fix a few of her daughters older cars so that they could sell them and clean up their house. At the time she had 9 cars parked out front. Her daughter is "hell on wheels"

I spent a few weekends hanging out drinking beer and fixing small things rechargin a/c systems swapping coil packs and performing tune ups.

After I had fixed 4 of 5 of the cars they hauled them off to be sold at the auction. I asked her what was wrong with the talon. She stated it had a bad CV joint when it was parked and had not been started in several years.

I left it at that. A few weeks later she called and asked if I knew anybody that wanted the car it was taking up space. I asked her what she wanted for it. She stated since I helped her out by fixing a few of her cars she'd haul it the hour and a half to my house for $500.00 with title in hand.

At the time I was driving a 99gs I had built from the ground up new paint wheels redone interior. I liked it but had always wanted a turbo model. I decided to go back up and check out the car. I popped the hood and there sat the 4g63. Almost untouched!! I found out it was two owner auto AWD with 126XXX on the dial.

I told her I would see about coming up with the money and get back to her. I told my sister about the car and she made me a deal. I would sell her the GS for $3k and she would put down the money for the car and the parts to get it on the road. I was hesitant but decided to go with it.

A few days later the car was at my dads shop. It took us a few hours to get the thing running. The ding wire to the starter was corroded in half and somebody had attempted to fix the fuel pump ring recall by using silicone. FYI if you didnt already know silicates and petroleum dont mix. The sliicone had fallen into the tank and gummed up the ENTIRE fuel pump assembly. We replaced it and fixed the wire and it busted right off purring like a kitten.

We then moved onto the CV shaft which I soon found out was a bad transfer case :ohdamn:

I spent the better half of two days looking for a 2g auto transfer case.. no luck. At this point I was looking for a buyer. The best deal I could find was $600 with a $150 core. My core was shot. Ran dry bearing seized tailshaft gone etc. I looked to my former boss at a local recycling yard and he gave me a tip to a DSM yard in Kansas. I called and had a transfer case to my door for $75 no core!!

And the journey began. I DD the car for about 8 months and up until recently had not done a whole lot to it. Sad I know.

But then I got on tuners and got motivated again. My goals for the soon to be converted talon are a 350whp AWD auto that will shut my camaro and mustang buddies up at the track on friday nights.

So far Ive swapped a 16g running 17psi nicely a 1g bov and custom UICP. Its in bad need of a paint job but the body is in good shape. I picked up a 2ga eclipse rear cover today and am getting the OEM tail lights come wednesday.

I searched for months and had a set of eclipse 2gb headlights shipped to my door for $65.00 and plan on getting the front cover for $45.00 from Certifit.

I then ran across an OEM turbo wing for $50.00 and am well on my way to a nicely done 2g talon converted to a GSX.

Its funny how reading peoples builds and blogs can motivate you to get off your can and build a car.

Ive always wanted a 2g and love when people see the things ive done to the car. I cant wait to get the body work prep done so I can send it to the paint booth.

Dont worry Im taking lots of pics. Its like a preschool with picture books on here!! LOL

I will be sure to take pics of everything start to finish and upload them and hopefully give some new ideas for DIYers and fellow DSMers.

wow great story man, i'm just glad that it did not end up in the junkyard or just forgotten about.

Yeah it is!! Currently searching for a Colt/Summit/Mirage hatch to start another project! Good find :)

i read the title thinking you litterally flipped the car over while driving.

how i got my first dsm is very simmilar to this story. its a 95 talon tsi FWD manuel black. it sat out in front of the local yard uncovered with a flat tire for as long as i remember (prob 5 years at best). so when i was 18 i asked the guy what was rong with it he said "nothing its for sale". came back two days later to drive it and about crapped my pants. keep in mind i currently drove a geo tracker. got it for 2700$ with 38K on the clock bone stock.
i blew the T25 on the dragons tail in tennesse so i got an ebay big 16g and ran it at wastegate pressue(9.5psi) with a atmopheric BOV(i now know this is a nono). drove it like so until last summer when i rear ended my buddy in his brand new fusion.
hood pulled back the core support and broke the head lights thats all. so i planned on buying a new core support and fixing my baby rather then buying a shell. well while buying parts off some dude i saw he had a mint spyder gst on jack stands. hh blew the motor and was parting the car. so i convinced him to sell me the hole car motor tranny and all for 600$.
now the spyder has my talons short block, trans and turbo in it. also addeed 272 cams and arp head studs while i was at it. unfortunately my talon has become my parts car but i hope to fix it and make it an awsome FWD circut racer like it diserves.

sorry for the thread jack but you really made me think about my hole dsm journey "Its funny how reading peoples builds and blogs can motivate you to get off your can and build a car."

thanks and good luck to all
