My boost is 15psi with factory boost controls (Boost Creep?)

So I have a 2G with a 14B turbo and no MBC but my boost gets to 15 psi. The actuator is connected to the factory boost control solenoid and there is nothing else controling boost. So why is it so high? Not that I mind the extra power but just curious?

Thanks

Dis.

An open exhaust makes it easier for exhaust gasses to pass the turbine rather than go through the rather restrictive wastegate port. So your options are A) Be prepared for boost creep, it won't go away with higher boost B) port the wastegate and enlarge the flapper C) Put on a more restrictive exhaust.

Or go external.

Yes, but that would require welding/blocking the wastegate and running a gated manifold. Or using the Punishment Racing EWG O2 housing. Both of which seem like too much money/time for a 14b to me.

So I agree, if you can support the boost, just be prepared for the creep.

Ahhhh hah!! I didnt think about the exhaust causing it. The car seems to handle the boost no problem. I dont hit fuel cut or anything. I will need to install a cat soon due to my states emissions regulations, so that might cause some restrictions. I'll be using a 3" bullet style all metal cat.

Alright, so I welded in a Bullet style 3" Cat and did a quick boost leak test.. I found that the reference tube that attaches to the Lower IC pipe and goes to the T for the actuator and boost control solenoid had come loose and was leaking A LOT of boost. So after fixing that boost leak from that tube, and the pin hole I found in the J pipe's weld, the boost is limited to 12-14 psi. I still have more leaks to track down though..

Same happend for me when I first started, even with the stock turbo with 3 inch exhaust boosting 15 psi. Go buy a walbro 255lph fuel pump and you will be good.

I run an evo3 o2 housing to a full 3 inch exhaust and have no problem running stock boost levels.

I need to have the turbo rebuilt soon due to an oil seal leak. I was going to port the O2 housing anyway. Probably open up the wastegate flapper port too. Is it hard to put on a bigger wategate flapper or is it not worth it?

I really dont want anymore turbo lag ### I have an auto and it doesnt spool fast as it is.

Previous owner probably also did the bcs free mod, where the little restrictor nipple is removed and up to 3psi is gained from factory bcs. Was one of the first mods I did on my 97gst when I got it back in 2004, and I saw 15psi regularly from it.

I have a similar setup and mine spikes to 20PSI. I will be going with an external WG to fix the issue.

When you say spike do you mean it comes back down or that's how high it goes period? I know some people use to much tubing for the boost controller and it maxes out the turbo till it reads the correct pressure and then it comes back down. Just curious.

slightly clogged line somewhere restricting the flow of the pressure acting like a mbc closed a little possibly clogged solenoid(raising the boost).. take off the solenoid and check it out. if not and you plan on upgrading down the line just buy a hallman boost controller and set it to 12-13 psi and call it a day

SO after the cat install and fixing a major boost leak my creep isnt as bad. Im still boosting too 15 psi with stock BCS.. Also getting boost spike when my trans shifts (auto).. it spikes to about 22psi when it shifts. After it settles back to 15psi I get Fuel cut once after that until the next shift. So I installed an Ebay MBC thinking the stock BCS couldnt react fast enough.. Its still doing the same thing. I am assuming it has nothing to do with boost control.
Is it a fuel problem? I just got some 550cc injectors to hopefully help out and will be getting that 255 FP next.

Any other ideas?

It is very weird how every ones car reacts so differently. I installed my hallman bc today and run 15 psi with no spikes no cat and full 3 inch piping. It is very solid. Maybe because I'm still on a side mount. yes it does have something to do with your boost control. if your boosting 22 psi your car doesn't have the fuel for it. and it takes a second for the car to realize your running too lean so that why its cutting out on you.
