Every morning when i go to work,my belts squeak, till the car warms up, now i use silicone and it stops till the next time i start it... what would cause this?
thanks

when did you replace them last? they are probably loose, they will need to be checked and tightened or replaced.

It may often seem like the belts are too tight, but many times they can be tighter. Keep tightening them little by little, checking the status by starting the car and listening for squeaks until they go away. Don't be afraid, even if they do break, your only out $10.00 or so to buy a new one, but I'm almost positive they are still loose.

they are probably glazed. take sand paper and carefully........ while the engine is running, hold it on the spinning pullies to clean them, may want new belts too.

u mean use sand paper on the pulley? how if the belt is on,

Which belts exactly are you referring to? If they're squeaking, I suppose it has to be the accessory belts (the timing belt wouldn't squeak unless the pulleys are rubbing on something).

If so... You shouldn't have too hard of a time reaching to the inside of the belt loop and holding a piece of medium grit (300-500 grit) sandpaper to one side of the pulleys. Obviously, make sure the car is running so you hit the entire circumference of the pulley with the sandpaper.

When you're finished, make sure the belts are tight, and you may want to consider new ones altogether. Fortunately, the accessory belts aren't terribly expensive, and it may be the remedy to your problem.

However, DSMstatus is likely right. After years of use and constant friction between the pulleys and the belts, it is very likely that a thin layer of rubber was deposited over the pulleys, decreasing their overall traction. The sandpaper trick should resolve this problem. Just remember to be very careful so you don't snag a sleeve, or worse, a hand in the belts.
