i'm replacing my second gear becasue my syncros went bad. is it possible to leave my tranny in and replace my second gear? or do i have to drop it? thanks for your help!!

You're willing to rip into the internals of your transmission (while in the car, no less), but you're hesitant to actually pull it?

My suggestion: have someone else do that gear replacement.

i'm willing to do whatever it takes, i just dont want to drop the damn thing out if i dont have to...make sense? i just dont want to do more work if it's not necessary so i can get back on the road again. but now that i know that i have to drop it i will, i'm not too worried about it at all. i think it'll be fun. and hell no, nobody is working on my car other than me and my girlfriend. unless it was someone i trusted or someone like John Shep. or TRE.....anyways, uhh...yeah, wish me luck.
