so i am having a hell of a time with this cars fuel system. first, it would die instead of idle so i replaced the fuel filter. which fixed the problem for a couple weeks until it did it again. so i replaced it again and it didnt do a thing. i assumed i had a load of bad gas because both filters were plugged. is my fuel pump going out? :hmm:i dont know what to do any help is apprecdiated.

the other thing i forgot was that sometimes i think the computer catches it and when it goes to idle it revs up and down continuously. also when i first start the car it idles, but slowly.

whats the best/easiest way to test the fuel pressure on these? my dad doesnt think that its a pump problem because it never bogs down? and can you explain exactly what terry did to fix his problem? i gathered that he took it back and they replaced something in the TB under warranty which obviously wont apply to me. sorry his article kinda confused me...LOL sorry im retarded!
thanks so much guys!

Since there is no fuel rail tap, to test fuel pressure on a dsm you need something like this: SAVE on B&M Fuel Pressure Gauge - RacingWorks.com - B&M Mechanical Fuel Pressure Gauge.
Note that the fuel supply may not be the problem however. It could be near anything. But if proper pressure is not there (33psi at idle) or it drops rapidly when turned off, it may be (pressure should stay for hours, even days). Also does it happen when cold, warm, intermittent, all the time? Can you drive it if you keep feathering the gas pedal or ...?

Since you say it clogged 2 fuel filters (how did you know they were clogged - just replace them, notice results and assume?), is there any reason you may have bad/old gas or a dirty/rusted gas tank? Like car sat for years or...?

Terry's idle surge problem was a bad ISC (idle speed control) which is on the TB (throttle body).

It happens all the time. One stop sign it may surge and then it will stall. I'd say it dies more than it surges. And yes I can drive it if I feather the gas pedal. I know the filters were clogged because we blew them out and got a bunch of crap out of them. You hit the nail on the head though my grandma let it sit for like 3 years. But I had for 3 months before it did this continually draining and filling up again. A guy I talked to also thought it might be bad gas or rust so I switched fuel stations and have been keeping it above half a tank all the time. That would not explain surge though. So now I guess I need to check the isc somehow? Thanks man!

So i know this is a super old post but i havent qite got around to fixing the isc if thats the the problem becasue i threw a CEL and had 3 codes: p0170 Fuel trim (bank 1) P0100 MAF or VAF circuit malf. and p0125 closed fuel loop insufficient coolant temp. from what ive read seems like a faulty main o2 sensor. just curious what you guys thought and if the o2 sensor going bad could cause my idle problems?
thanks! colton

an 02 sensor should have nothing to do with the idle. It is with the fuel system you would see symptons like misfires and it running lean. Im willing to bet its your throttle position sensor but i would check iac and terrys guide helped me fix my high idle i had on my car my throttle cable was too tight
