i am using my friends account and i have some questions. i have a 96 eclipse rs 5 spd.it has a set of 17" rims on low pro fulcan tires. i also have a set of boshe platimum 2 spark plugs. i am getting a head pipe, down pipe, a ractive exhaust, a stage 2 clutch, and a sri (short ram intake). i am gonna take the catalytic converters off the car when i weld up the piping on the exhaust so it will flow alot nicer. what are some other things that i can do to my car to make it perform better without spending to much money?

to all tune-ups. also try synthetic oil if you don't have it already. You should also go with a aftermarket clutch ( i do not know your budget though) and a CAI instead of a SRI. I believe they make them for 2gs. I'm a 1g guy myself thought

You have a n/t right than not much. I would skip the big clutch since the OEM one can handle all the power you give it. Dont waste the money on a large clutch when you have no power to use it. Its not needed. You have done everything that really will give you some power for cheap. You can do head and motor work thats about it. I think the record holder for a 2g n/t is a 14.5 1/4 mile with a dyno slip of like 170whp. So you cant get much without some boost.

First things first; if you are going to be asking for help on the forums, I suggest doing so under your own account... sign up! :thumb:

On topic now, it sounds like you are on track for achieving (cheap) performance gains. All those mods to decrease backpressure will help. I guess the biggest question is what are your goals? One suggestion is to address the suspension/handling of your car to keep it balanced overall.

To prevent your friend from getting warnings he doesn't deserve, use proper spelling and grammar and, as suggested, sign yourself up.

That is true. DO NOT overlook suspension. In addition, to what Zmann said, you might want to plan a little further ahead. Nothing sucks more than removing and trying to resale aftermarket parts because you want more power. Try to look a little further down the road.

ps. yea....try to get your own account homeboi

thanks i found a 1g for 3 grand it has some problems but it is awd turbo. i have my own account but for some reason it won't let me message back i don't know what the problem is. i have to work today and tomorrow but i will try and get it fixed by thursday and that way my friend son't have to worry bout nothing. thanks for the advice

if you have an open filter sitting in your engine bay, it will just be sucking in hot air from your motor, the stock airbox utilizes piping to get cold air from behind the front bumper or behind a fender, a short ram with a filter will just get getting hot air, and we all know that cooler air = more oxygen by volume than hot air. All a short ram does is make a cool sucking sound, looks cool and makes your engine work harder to recieve oxygen

a short ram gives you almost the same as a cold air as long as your moving. if you are sitting still then the sri will pull in hot air from the motor, so as long as you stay moving you will be ok. the cold air will make sure the air you pull in is cold but since it is further away from the engine you have less throttle response. also since its lower to the ground and can suck up dirt and debrise. but it all depends on what you prefer. what do you recoment i do since i have a short ram. can i make some custom piping to extend it away from the motor to make it cold air or is that just a waste of time and money. tyler

you could install a heat shield to block some of the hot air but by the time you bought all the parts for your sri you could just buy a cold air intake

ok, but air doesnt flow through your engine bay as much as you think, ya it gets some circulation but not enough as to where a short ram will be recieving cool air, and yes you have to watch with a cold air, depending on the location you have to watch it when it rains, you suck in water you can hydro lock your motor.

yeah you make a good point i was thinking about getting a set of 18" rims which is a 1" upgrade from my 17" rims. would it help my handling or would it just be a waste of money tyler

yeah thats what i was thinking but you wouldn't make to much of a boost in hp cause of the fact that it would be sucking in hot air.

ok neither of us can proove that you will lose or gain anything, but im telling you id rather have a more restrictive stock air box system that sucks in cool air than a less restrictive short ram that sucks in hot air.

Waste of money.

Honestly, the diameter of your wheels is not that important when it comes to handling. More importantly is how heavy (wheels are unsprung weight) and how wide (wider wheels allow for wider tires and thus, more contact/traction with the road) your wheels are.

Aside from wheels though, there are other (cheaper) mods that will increase the handling performance of your car. Some examples: strut tower bars to increase chassis rigidity, performance shocks with adjustable damping force, springs with a stiffer spring rate, etc.
