I've had some problems finding exactly what i am looking for in a dsm car. I am basically set on buying a 1998 Eagle Talon Esi, but was wondering about the main differences between that and a Tsi?
Is it just the turbo?

If so, i plan on replacing the turbo anyway. What would be the drawbacks to the Esi vs. the Tsi in the modding long-run?

Don’t get the ESi, you will relies it when you don’t have the turbo... plus it’s a completely different engine. The ESi has a 420a (Neon motor) and the TSi has 4g63. For one, turboing a ESi is costly so why not just get the TSi.... I own an ESi and I am trying to get rid of it. I got my hands on a GSX. But listen to me on this, Don’t think you will just do an engine swap since that would be a ass load of work also. Do it right the first time! Get the TSi, yes it maybe more but trust me its definitely worth it! Only downfall is crank walk and that is slim to none! Also there are a lot more performance parts for the TSi. I could keep going on this subject. ESi has 140 Stock compared to the TSi 210. If you need some more information you may talk to me on AIM (sakrafice)
 
I'm not too worried about the insurance. I'm navy so they got me pretty well covered. I'm just gettin impatient to enter into the dsm world. Need a car to work on soon, i'd prefer a Tsi AWD but i'll take what i can find.
 
Ha Ha, I see your point. I’m 18, and going to attempt to get a 95 GSX. Parents pay insurance for now so.. Hopefully they wont notice the increase. Anyway, don’t settle for what you can find bro!
 
i've got an esi, and right now, i wish i had a tsi, if you want the esi, go ahead, but if you ever want to trubo it, then its going to cost you. then you're gunna have to consider that if you want to push more than 8psi on an esi's stock internals... you're gunna have to get a built bottom end. howell automotive makes one for about 2600 bucks.. then add that to the cost of a turbo kit.. so you're looking at spending 4k-5k.. where you could go with a tsi, and possibly get 18psi, and have like 260hp.. id go with the tsi.
 
Plus, if you ever want AWD, it's gonna cost a ton to convert that ESi to AWD.
 
you could talk to the one dude on this forum who wants to convert his fwd esi to an awd esi....he said he wants to be the only awd esi in the world... whatever floats your boat i guess.. he's crazy if you ask me.
 
Hey thanks... but I never said only one in the world.... And maybe that’s why it was a thought and not started.... Only reason I thought about attempting that is because you cant find a damn Turbo AWD around here... and when I asked that I wasn’t sure if it was a bi*** or not since its the same Body. Anyway, thanks for you opion.
