missing when rev'd

Ok,im trading my car with A 96 Awd Drive Talon. The guy said that the car Is missing. It starts up but when U Rev it A little. It starts missing. He said it sounds like the spark plugs Or the coils, He also said it might be the 02 Sensor. He ran an Odp2 Scanner and it has no codes. He said its not the Ecu cause If It burns out then, U smell the bad caps when It goes out. The engine light is on but it would come on if the 02 Senosor is out. I treyed to look on yhe search but found nothing similar. My friend has A Gst and his did sort of the same thing but he replaced the disribtour cap and it was fine. Has anyone had this kind of problem with there Dsm. Let me know what It it could be so I can get the part and put it in . thanks

It could be any number of things. If the check engine light is on, there's no way he could have NOT pulled any codes. The light is only on if the ecu is storing a code. Get him to take it to Autozone or someplace like that, they'll do it for free, and tell you what the problem MAY be.

thats what i didnt understand either. if teh light is on he had to come up with something. in experince. what do u think it is. i used to have a gst and i never had that happen and u have a talon the same year and everything so i just want to know what u think it is and is it going to cost a lot to fix. if plugs, 02 sensor. things like that it wont be to much. i hope its not that bad of a problem. it still starts so thats good. just when rev, it missis after hitting fuel cut. he would turn the car off and back on and it would be fine. i dont think i said that in my first post. maybe that wil help u some

First thing, get the code. A common problem that causes misfiring in our cars is the use of improper spark plugs. If you can pull one of the sparks plugs and inspect it. If theyre old or Bosch Platinums replace them with NGK spark plugs. I had Bosch Platinums in my car and it misfired like crazy. Do a search and youll see what im talking about.

1. First thing to do is check what your engine light code is. Bad o2 sensor won't cause missing, but it will cause rich conditions and poor gas mileage.

2. Missfires are caused by number of things, the most common one is spark plugs and wires. Go from there.

Follow those steps anyway I hope that helps you out man and good luck with the car.

thanks for the info guys, i dont know if i expressed this or not but the guy said its after fuel cut when it does it?maybe that can help a little to narrow it down. the guy said that i would have to ###### tow it back due to the miss.the park plugs wouldnt make it miss that bad to were u cant drive it could it? i know to clean out the disributor and things like that. he said he had no codes. i just dont want to trade and then it be the whole ecu or somehting thats going to cost a lot of money. i saw that most of these problems come from the spark plugs and disributor. just want some info

he told me today that its propably not drivable due to the miss and i would have to tow it. im going down there this sat. im taking new ngk spark plugs, and im going to clean out the disributor that some one told me to clean out that might have dirt and crap in it. what else should i do to it to make it drivable so i dont have to pay to have it towed. the guy told me thats its nothing big it just misses after fuel cut. i know that there could be a lot of things that could be wrong, but the plugs and the cleaning is what most people told me the cause of the miss in dsm's. would that be enough or should i change some other things to it that might cause the miss. thanks for your guys info. landon

Ok I'm the owner of the car. After doing some investigating i pulled a few codes. one that might explain the problem p1400. so could have something to do with the egr valve. After this problem happened i was completely fed up with this car. so i was just going to sell it cheap to not have to deal with it anymore. i was wanting to sell it for 1500 bucks. Pretty reasonable price for just a shell not to mention recently rebuilt motor and transfer-case, not to mention some mods. but if this the egr valve is the problem i will keep the car. Oh also there is no Distributor, it is a distributor-less ignition.
