I've researched everything this site has to offer, and nothing is the same as this problem.
91 tsi awd. 5 spd

car runs like a dream at first start up, ie.) mornings, leaving home for work. drives great to my destination. but.. if I go to restart the car within lets say about 4 hours (depending on temp outside) the car runs like crap with a misfire. first thing I did was pull the wires while car was running to test for resistance build up to cause the misfire. cylinder 1,2, and 4 arc at the coil. I bought a new coil thinking the coils were breaking down. Coil did not fix it. So I tried wires thinking that the wires were building so much resistance that the coils couldnt build enough current. Wires did not fix it.
the timing is good, the plugs are 6's, the fuel is good, the ecu is recently rebuilt. when its misfiring, I can drive it down the road, just feels like a dead cylinder while driving. When its idling, it sounds more like a miss, the motor is rocking but you can def hear the miss through the exhaust.
I'm going to through a new set of 6's in it tomorrow for giggles.

I'm wanting to know what yall think? again.. this only acts up once I TURN CAR OFF. I can drive it 15mins, or 1 hour, doesnt happen till car is off, runs fine once its cooled off enough I guess. So tells me resistance building up, but why only when car is turned off??

thanks guys, and the compression is 148-152 on all 4. coolant gauge works, car does not overheat, and there are no boost leaks. car runs on 8psi. and runs like a dream on 1st startup.

I swapped my dsmlink ecu into this car thinking that there might be a chance its ecu related. It still happened and I got a trouble code for injector circuit problem. I start by pulling the clips of the injectors while the car is having its issue, and cylinder 3 when removed did not affect the idle. so I also check for spark and its still getting spark. I proceed to check to see if there is juice coming to the circuit and there is.
so I pull injector 3 and 4 for the 9v test. 4 clicks, and 3 does not. I'm putting an injector in today to see if problem is resolved.

So in theory I guess, why does this happen only after the key is turned off? maybe while the engine is cooling something internally is swelled up and sticks? and once its completely cooled off, it is able to move again. thoughts?

Perhaps the resistance gets to high on that injector, when it gets hot, preventing it from firing.
I think i might be having a similar problem, but its so random on my car, its hard to nail it down.

alright. just a final update. I replaced the injector and everything seems to be resolved. I have yet to have a problem or misfire.

If the issue resurfaces, try the egr valve. I had the exact same problem. This fixed it.
