I am gauging interest on weather or not I should put a MBC on my DD. The reason I ask is because I am in a debate with some of the locals I talk to that say if I bump up the boost (up to 13-14psi) that it will effect reliability and it wont last. I understand that with stock injectors that they will be maxed out at 15-16 psi which is what I want to stay away from. Currently I have done a full tune up including the timing belt and clutch.

The modifications I have installed on this is;

eliminated emissions hoses
open air box
hard-pipe from airbox to turbo.

Uninstalled upgrades to be installed next week;

fuel pump (walbro)
downpipe
evo 3 exhaust manifold
2G o2 housing

Other than those parts, the rest is OEM.

I really dont plan on going any further than that as its my DD and I dont want to compromise it. The stock turbo, to me, is going to make enough power that I will need for DD.

Who thinks I should put the MBC on and why?
Who thinks I should leave the boost at the stock wastegate setting? (shows 9-10psi on my autometer gauge)

Your setup would be really nice with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and an SAFC and logger. Get those and you can bump the boost up to 15 or 16psi and increase the fuel pressure over stock a little, add some fuel and monitor your knock. I would go with the MBC at 13 or 14 on a stock setup without hesitation. Our cars run very rich from the factory anyways and leaning it out a little won't cause the car to become unreliable.

DOH - forgot to mention my palm III logger:)

I appreciate your input, I did not know that our cars have a tenancy to run rich. I am still learning more and more about these cars.

Next question is what is the best/most reliable MBC on the market and why? I see cheapies on ebay for 15bux and then I see Halman's for 100.00 - is there a happy medium?

I would get the logger first before you change the boost

You will be fine on the stock fuel system at 13-14psi given the fuel system is properly functioning. With a fuel pump rewire, you should be good to around ~16psi, after that the high factory timing map becomes pretty knock prone on pump gas.

I've had good success with the NXS boost controllers for ~$20

I have never tuned with a SAFC so i am leary of using one. Will I lose reliability by adding the evo injectors and a SAFC?

They are difficult at first to use than after you learn its pretty easy, is there a local DSM shop, sosmeone that knows a few things about DSM's or locall DSMers that could help you out? No it wont be hurt the reliabilty of your car with those 2 things in since its not like your going to run 16psi all day.
