Edmonton,
I have a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T with the following aftermarket parts:

- Garett T3/T4 Turbo
- GReddy Intercooler
- APEXi N1 full exhaust with resnators
- APEXi BOV
- Turbosmart WG35 35mm wastegate
- Turbonetics Manifold
- Turbosmart manual boost controller

The clutch, fuel pump, and injectors(440cc I believe) are all stock. The engine has been rebuilt but the internals are still stock/OEM parts as far as I know. Right now I am running 11PSI which was recommended by a local DSM shop. I have heard stories of people boosting the stock turbo with slight modifications up to 16PSI. My question is, based on what I've listed, what can I safely crank this baby up to?

T3/T4 what?

Compwheel + Housing.. turbine wheel + housing... Internal or external gate etc....

T3/T4 true garret flange turbine + what A/R

or

T3/T4 Bullseye turbine DSM bolt pattern.+ what A/R

or

T3/T4 On PTE housing... + what A/R

From what we know so far

I am not sure on the exact specs of the turbo as I am new to them, but I believe it is a T4 housing to say the least. And its an external wastegate.

MN, your thinking way too far outside the box. He has stock drivetrain and fuel. I personally wouldnt go over 16 until you get at least fuel. And even then its based on tuning, I plan on a nice 22psi when I finish un-modding the TSi and moding the GSX. If your not tuning, don't go over 18.

Where the fuel mods, can't boost high with out'em. Safley??? Tough to say, whats safe mean to you? Im thinking the shop said 11 psi, for a reason.

I plan to upgrade the injectors to 550cc, upgrade the fuel pump, install an AFC, and get a sports clutch so I can crank up the boost. The shop who recommended 11 psi doesnt specialize in DSMs specifically and I have noticed that they definitely did not take their time to install a handful of parts in my car. I purchased the car for more than a resonable price off of a friend who had a handful of things done to it - but whenever you buy a "souped" up car you buy the problems as well :p But anyway, the reason I've raised this question was because I've read a few threads on here and noticed people bragging about boosting the stock turbo to more than stock specifications, but I'm guessing that can be achieved quite easily with proper fuel mods and a boost controller?

Sounds like a plan! :thumb:

Oh man.

Ok first you are very far from the stock turbo so I dont see why your logic is being based off of a stock turbo. T3/T4 is not a size of a turbo. It is a combination of turbo parts. The actual size has alot to do with what injectors and fuel pump you get, but since you have no idea you might as well get a logger and use the hell out if it. I would try to find out what size turbo you have so you can make an educated decision. It seems you have a bit to learn so read up on the board.

Also learn the difference between pressure and volume, it will help in this discussion a great deal.

DO NOT go over the 11 psi without a logger. If you dont have supporting mods you will max out the stock fuel system very fast. The problem no on seems to realize is that 16psi from a 14B doesnt equal 16 psi from a 50 trim or 60-1. They have a ton more volume so they will VERY quickly run out the fuel system and kill you motor.

Yep, its my first turbo'd car and I'm lovin' it, and up to the learning as well. Thanks for the tips and so far this board has helped me learn alot.

Point has been understood, now my next question is - is there a FAQ on a logger? I don't know much about it except its supposed to log  Can I use a laptop with a serial cable and software?
