Master cylinder install gone wrong?!

My master cylinder in my daily talon devolved a internal leak and I installed a new one. I have the rod almost all the way out but my clutch pedal has about 4 inches of free play. I'm very confused at what I could have done wrong because everything worked fine before?! Need some advice thanks tired if this stupid clutch issue

You likely still hare air in the lines, or you have a bad slave also.

Well i recently did my master cylinder and after bleeding and bleeding about 6 or 7 times i took it out for a drive and about a mile into the trip the clutch adjusted that play out and has been fine every since. This was 2 weeks ago.

Also if you bought it from autozone be prepared to use that life time warranty.I'm on my 3rd one in about 2 month.Although the other two started leaking with in about 2 days to 2 weeks.this one is holding up pretty good...So far anyway

Bench bleeding just gets the master cylinder primed with fluid. Once there is fluid in the master is bled. It isn't required in any way to bench bleed the master, it only helps to aid in getting the master primed with fluid.

What do you mean not moving the spring until it is far down. Are you talking about the pedal return spring? It is possible that the arm on the end of the pedal assembly is worn out from the nut being loose and there is a ton of play there. That is pretty common on 1g's. Grab the arm that the master rod attaches to under the dash and push the pedal up and down and check for play. If there is play there than you will need to pull the pedal assembly and weld the arm on or replace the pedal assembly.

I never had much luck bleeding the clutch til I swapped a speed bleeder in the slave. Turns it into a quick one man job.

like bryan stated above, if the clutch pedal assembly has play, you need to rebuild it.

this requires buying the clutch pedal parts, and its recommended to get a set of upgraded bushings as opposed to using mitsubishi parts.
