I recently noticed that my manifold to turbo gasket was leaking upon using the infamous seafoam. I ordered the new one from RRE and Im just wondering if there is any way to install it without totally removing the turbo? It seems like you could just drop the turbo a few inces and slid it in but the stud will be in the way. Anyone have any advice?

I think you idea should work, though you probably have to loosen all the manifold studs to clear the stud. Maybe youo should just go ahead and replace the stud with another bolt ;)

That crossed my mind, but is there any reason why they put a stud instead of all bolts?

I use all bolts with no problems. The stud makes it a bit easier to line up the holes if you are working alone. The stud makes it harder to remove the turbo though since you then have to be able to drop it down a few inches to remove it. Instead of just sliding it out. I also run no gasket. I run a thin layer of grease on the flanges. Since I've done that its been the first time I have not had to retighten manifold bolts, and had no exhaust leaks there. The grease burns off and turns to a hard carbon deposit.

I got the gasket in the car today, I ended up using the double nut trick to get the stud out. After sliding the old gasket out and putting in the new one I tightened the 3 bolts and stud down to ~45ft. lbs. The problem is that the passengers side leaks from above the gasket, you can feel the exhaust coming out when you rev the motor. My question is, does it take time for the gasket to settle or will it heat up and expand to fill the small gap? Its the RRE 7cm gasket for a 16G on a 2G manifold if that matter
