so the day after I got my car my ECU fried. so another one is in the mail, and I wanna ABSOLUTELY make sure this does not happen again. the only thing I changed before I drove it when it fried was I adjusted the idle. now if I hadnt ground out the timing adjuster or the terminal on the diagnostic port, could that have affected the ECU? that is the only thing that jumps out at me as to what could have happened besides the computer just being old. (the car does have 130,000 miles on it) I just want to be solid on the idea that this wont happen again.
the ecu I'm getting has fresh caps in it so old caps arnt a problem.
thanks, Adam

I always made sure my battery was disconnetcted before i swaped ecus. Thats really all i can think off.

^That^ didn't have anything to do with the ECU dying - But you need to reset your new ECU & adjust Base Idle & Base Timing properly. Be ABSOLUTELY sure you have NO Power Steering Fluid leaks from your P/S Pump onto your ALT - That will kill a Voltage Regulator & will KILL an ECU real QUICK OMG !
