I did and oil change on my car 2 weeks ago and converted it to 5w-30 Mobile 1 synthetic oil. I have since put around 1000 miles on the car. I checked my oil yesterday and I was down almost a quart and the oil was pitch black. I found some oil in the valve cover area by the plug wires. I thought this was oil I spilled while I was putting the new synthetic in, but I saw that wasnt true then I saw it was as black as the oil out of my engine.

I am worried my engine may start to be going, please help

thank you

check your dipstick... make sure it didn't come out... when mine blew out once the sparkplug vally was covered in oil...

Go back to conventional oil. Chances are thats what was always used in that motor. With synthetic its thin and your motor is probably burning oil and with the synthetic its starting to show. Besides 5w is way too low for a dsm.

My friend took his volvo a while back for an oil change at valvoline and they ended up putting synthetic in his motor little did he know about two weeks later he had burned 3 quarts of oil.

well i heard bad things happen when you go back from synthetic to conventional. Anyway when oil should i run if not 5w-30?

He is correct. Swapping to synthetic will sometimes make you start consuming oil. I like to run 10 30

The oil in the valve cover can be something as simple as having to retighten those bolts. As for what weight oil, that is a question that has been asked a million times on here, and you will get a million different answers of which type and why. That being said, I run 10W-30.

Synthetic is not really thinner than regular oil at the same viscosity. Use what was recommended by Mistubishi-1030. Fix the oil leak first dont worry about the differences. You can switch between each as long as your engine is clean and has no leaks.

Use 10w30 mobil 1 synthetic. Then get a new gasket for your oil cap to keep the oil out of the sparkplug valley. Then get under the car and retighten all the oil pan bolts that have loosened over the years since they were installed.
