I am in the process of my rebuild. I am going with the a stock rebuild and 2g pistons/1g rods combo. I am just looking to get the car on the road right now and maybe down the road I might through some real boost to her. I have two main bolt holes that are stripped. I might be able to clean one up with a thread restorer, but the other one for sure is done. I was thinking about HeliCoiling it, but I am not sure if it will hold up. I am going with all ARP hardware, and my question is, does ARP make a oversized stud, so that I could just drill it out and re tap it, or is HeliCoil my best bet? Does anybody have any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks

if you call ask them if you need to oversize all of them or just the two that are stripped. i believe they will tell you they all need to be oversized. just a heads up.

Alright, I called ARP and they do have an oversize kit that is availible. They are 12mm x 1.25 and they all need to be replaced. My new questions though, since I only have 2 stripped would I be better off doing the helicoil or just go and drill/tap all new holes in the mains? Thanks

Well I would feel safer oversizing them instead of trusting Helicoils inside my motor.

 :toobad: helicoil them. they will never get into the motor. stuffing a larger bolt into a hole is a really stupid idea.

I'll agree with you. Think about it, do you really trust a helicoil holding down main caps? Id drill and tap them all, over a helicoil.

Cripes, it's a DSM. Go to the side of your neigbor's house and grab one of the spare blocks he has laying there. They're too plentiful and cheap to bother with the cost and labor of an oversize stud kit.

I wish I had a neighbor that just had blocks laying around. I am doing the labor, so it does not cost me anything, and the parts are the same price as the regulars. Any other Idea's?

You know you would need to enlarge the holes in the main caps too for a 12mm stud, do you?

Helicoils will hold everything the original thread did if not more.
