Many of you know I did the Magnus Motorsports Manifold install review in the tech section earlier in the year. Well here are the results from that manifold install now that I have something verifiable. Here is the basic info on my car for those wondering.

98 Talon TSI AWD. Stock 7 Bolt engine (completely, and I mean it.. No HG no Studs etc...)
650cc, 50 Trim, FMIC, 23psi, Pump 94 Octane gas.

Before the install with the stock intake manifold and throttle body my best run after multiple times at the drag strip was 12.59 @ 109mph.

After the Magnus manifold install and 1st Gen 60mm throttle body install I went back to the track and didn’t pull any faster times. Actually that’s not totally true as I pulled a 12.55 @ 109mph whoptie do. So back to the drawing board I went. I pressure tested my system and found I had a HUGE boost leak between the throttle body and manifold so I corrected that and went to the track this weekend.

the car beside me is my Dad's Maxima btw...

After only simply fixing the boost leak, my 12.55 became a 12.13 with 4mph improvement in my trap speed. This is a NO B.S. improvement as nothing else on my setup was changed from the stock 2G to the Magnus manifold, and I mean no changes otherwise at all. I did pull a better 60ft time from the old slip to the new slip however I pulled 1.765’s before and still only ran a 12.5 or 12.6 down the track on the stock manifold.

All I can say is that it made power and took off 4/10 ths and added 4mph to my time which is a huge improvement to a mid 12 second car. There may be some skeptics in the house about the times, however those who know me know I’m a no BS guy. If Marco’s manifold sucked I would say so even though I’m local to Magnus, but it doesn’t. It made power and a huge improvement on my car. If I proved it to myself on my own car then I’m a believer.

Just thought I would share my results.

Congratz on the new best. Once you put some cams in that thing, it should really fly and compliment the manifold :) How much timing were you getting out of curiosity?

22-23deg Peak at WOT with 22-23psi. I would really say closer to 22psi to be perfectly honestly. My boost gauge is not centered on the 0 it's more towards 1psi when the car is off..

Impressive results Jim... You are close to being one of the few in the 11s on pump ... but the real questions is!!.. can you do it on 91!? LOL jp

very impressive.....im sure next time out you can see 11's it shouldnt be that hard :thumb: anyway, whats up next for the car as far as go fast mods are concerned?

also sidenote ive always been a fan of your car and just wanted to let ya know you have a pretty sweet ride.

oh and uhhh its obvious your dads maxima is pretty damn sick too! LOL

You wouldn't happen to have the GReddy 60mm Mech boost guage would you? If you do Mine does the SAME exact thing, weird...

On another note, you have a gang of mods to only be running low 12's on a 50 trim and everything AEM has to offer. I know its pump gas, but it seems you should be running high-mid tens with cams and a 6-bolt with all those mods! :thumb:

Congrats either way!

I don't have the AEM installed and running yet. Running pump gas on a full street car with a stock 7 bolt into the low 12's is pretty descent IMO. Nobody with a setup like mine is running Mid 10's I'll tell you that.

11's will come with a 6-bolt, cams and my EMS installed and tuned properly, don't worry about that. It's just a matter of time.

I'm not attacking you. So relax. :D

Yes, mucho propendos goes to your setup, as well as the looks of a sinister Black Talon.

I didn't realize the EMS was not installed.

So what type of management ARE you running anyways? :p

And oh yeah, ARE you running that 60mm GReddy Boost guage?

peace

Just AFC and 660cc thats it. I have an autometer gauge and it's kinda wonky now. I'm gonna have to do a 6 bolt eventually I'm just gonna hold out on it as long as I can LOL. Wonder what my 7 bolt splattered all over the track will look like?

Its only a matter of time and the Maxima will rule the roost again.

Can't even trust your own kid to let you win anymore. :D

PS Also if you look at that timeslip you will note that the Maxima did win because of the Talon drivers slow r/t.

Way to whoop your old man!! haha

My setup is almost identical but no intake manifold yet. I ran 12.2 on pump @25psi. I hope I see that kind of gain when I get mine. I'll probably get cams before the IM though. Why are you so worried about your motor?

My R/T is never usually slow. Must I pull out the .500 perfect light slip I got in the final round of eliminations?

Here is the thread to the video of the run in question...

Great job Jim :) And really good job with that Maxima too, that must be a sleeper ;)

Does that Magnus intake fit a stock 1g throttle body and have no problems with emissions, fitment, IAC etc etc? Direct bolt on(or minor mods)? Or do you have to frig around?

very very nice times jim, nice to see others running alsome times on pump. what are you high and low settings looking like before and after the magnus install. 22psi with 22timing is pretty good.

Are the improved times done with no tuning??

Yes as SpoOLxExO has already pointed out it was with no changes to my AFC. I was at -33% before the magnus manifold and afterwards on both my 6000 and 7000rpm points. My car went 12.55 about a month before I did my 12.13 run and the temperature outside and track conditions were almost identical. Honestly there was no changes besides the manifold and throttle body. Trust me I'm amazed too...

Low is around -8 to -12 across as RPM builds, High goes from -15 though to -33 as RPM builds. I tuned my car with a wideband and have it set currently at 11.7:1 AFR on pump gas at WOT 5000rpm+

jim, is your car stripped?

Well more or less I guess it is yeah. I have removed everything from the trunk including the washer bottle and taken out that little support the spare sits on. My interior is scraped of all sound deadening material and that stupid dash pad is removed. My hood is replaced with carbon fiber, and I run one single seat in the car, a MOMO race seat with aluminum brackets. The car with me inside is 3140lbs. I tried to take as much weight out of the car as possible but it's still pretty lardy at 3140 with me in really. I'm 160lbs so thats 2980lbs WET. I think my car is rated at 3142lbs dry stock which is about 3200lbs wet (50lbs in fluids, engine, trans coolant etc) so I have pulled about 220lbs from the car in total I would guess.

The manifold fits the stock 1G throttle body no problems at all. I have no emissions equipment hooked up at all however RRE's 1G throttle body swap page tells you how to hook it all up to make it work if you wanted to. I used the IAC from my 2G throttle body beacuse it pointed the coolant lines in a better direction for me with my setup. You also have to use your 2G TPS sensor because it's different and re-set it which is also covered on RRE's page. With the manifold you have to move a lot of shit around and find spots for it, no biggie if your creative. Have a look at my install page here on DSMTuners that I did up it will help you out... http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=96388

Did your low end tourque change much?

Other than more top end power my car does not feel any different. My spool time did not change, my low end torque did not change nor did my boost transition change. The only thing that changed was my 1/4 mile time LOL..
