Hey guys i think it's about time to do the gm mas set up i'm getting crazy readings from my karmen vortec and honestly it's getting a bit outdated. I would like to upgrade to a gm mas. My question is does it matter how close you actually mount the mas to the throttle body, the reason im asking this is becuase i have one piece UICP and would really like to just cut one of the ends instead of cutting it in the middle. obviously i would cut it near the throttle body and put it right before it.

Secondly, Does the maf translator hook right into where the vortec connects? do you splice the wires or does it have a connector. Also are there any benefits/downfalls to using a GM mas.

most people including myself have it really close to the throttle body, so yea its fine that way.

well if you want to run a blow thorugh set up and u get dejon tool pipe, itll be hella easy, BTW all you have to do is tap into one wire which is the CAS.

so besides the one wire that you tap into does the connector itself connect to the previous vortec sensor plug? or is there only 1 wire to connect the whole maf translator? I am very interested in buying one of these just wanted to get a better understanding of how they work before i go buy one.

The Translator comes with the PLUGS to connect to the GM MAS and the stock MAS plug. The stock MAS is Karman Vortex, by the way. There is no splicing except for the one wire on the CAS sensor. Unless you make your own extensions.
You can also buy, or make your own extensions for the wires to mount inside the cab.
ALOT easier to tune with the Translator in the car.

You don't have to mount it close to the tb. I've seen some setups where it's mounted at the intake, just like the stock MAS. You just have to be sure to recirculate your BOV if you mount it at the intake.
