Hello Forums.

My eclipse has a MAF Translator and had a dsm link installed as well. I took it in today to get a tune done when they told me that I am Going to need a piggyback AEM unit? What is that about?

A month earlier had a mechanic work on it and said he was putting a new ecu on the vehicle because the one I had didn't have a way to tune fuel saver. (I drove it from phoenix, az to el paso, tx) Did he remove my dsm link to put on this new ecu?

I'm very new to this and any help or advice will be very appreciated. Thank you.

First of all, if you have a MAFT and DSMlink, all the MAFT should be used for is to convert the GM MAF signal into something the ECU can read/understand. So the only thing you should do with it is set it for 450cc injectors and leave it alone.

If the place replaced your ECU, most likely he took the DSMlink chip as well. The ECU he put in was probably not socketed, nor did the guy probably know you had an aftermarket EPROM chip inside of it. The easiest way to check is to pull out your ECU and look for a chip/socket. If there's not one in there, I'd be on the phone with the guy in a hurry asking him where the old ECU is.

guy took out the dsm link and put in a "pre programed" ecu. what the hell is a pre programmed ecu? and the piggyback system, If I did Get it installed will I be able to manage it as well as a dsm link would? man I got Shafted.

I'm just not trying to spend more money then needed. But what would be smarter to do? put a dsmlink back in or get this piggyback system?
