Hey guys, new to the forums! Thought I'd break the ice with a fun question: I'm installing an Afternarket Intake and naturally there is no place for the factory MAF, I unplugged it and ran die a few days, it didn't do much, raised rpm's a bit, is it crucial I find a way to adapt a MAF to the new intake or is it on to run with it off? Also: if it's extremely necessary, know of any relatively simple way to install a MAF into the new intake?

Sorry about that, I just installed this app, havnt got everything filled out yet. Its a 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS, and il do more research on the forums to answer my question. Unless you feel like answering it yet again :p

I had a feeling this forum would be full of replies like that, I havnt yet installed the intake, and without the MAF it actually runs really well, RPM'S are just a bit higher at idle. I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate the MAF into the new intake so as to compensate for the increased air flow. Thanks

you need to find a 5'' oval type coupler. Most aftermarket intakes for our specific vehicles come with them. I had to buy one separate and it took me nearly 2 months to find one on here. Good luck

Most people I know just attach it to the intake pipe with a silicone coupler and some hose clamps.
I suppose I could maybe find a picture if thats too confusing.

A 5" coupler is going to be too big for a 1g MAF.

Here's one:

I still have this intake laying around my shop if you need it.

Not super familar with the Non Turbo but I can only assume that they run the same Vortex style MAF as the Turbo version. Some of us may not understand cause the car shouldnt even run without a maf.

But one way to adapt the maf to the pipe would be with a coupler/reducer. Take a pic of the pipe and post it or give us the OD size of it.

You'll need to find a way to adapt the MAF if you want the car to run correctly. Chances are it is running in a "limp mode", i.e. a predetermined program in the computer for when some sensors fail, so it will still run...kinda. However, this will not benefit you in any way. After all, you're wanting performance by putting an intake on it.
