out of the whole US....what machine shop do YOU recommend for a engine build?

I was thinking dsmgraveyard, but people are saying their rep is bad. Then someone said SBR, and someone else said Strictly Import Motorsports...

I have 2k to spend on the short block and dsmgraveyard quoted me:

about 2k for all the machine work, hot tanked and all that, manley pistons and rods, polished stock crank, balanced, balance shaft delete, torque plated, painted red, shipped.

where else can I get this?

i have 900 bucks in my shortblock, and thats with forged internals. I got my machine work done at carquest and have been doing all the work myself. Get a haynes and a chilton and do the work yoursefl, save you a lot of money. But if thats not the route u want to go, everyone has different oppinions on diff. shops. Call around and talk to a few and see who can give you the best quote.
FFWD, Jackson auto machine, dsm graveyard, sbr, magnus, ams...they all build motors..just do some research.

Just remember you get what you pay for. If ffwd is more than 2k, AMS and JAM will be too. FFWD AMS and JAM have been around forever, and are known for the quality of there work. The other guys are just some skanzilla parts slingers looking to make a quick buck.

the prices in machineshop vary, mainly due to what equipment is used

there are some shops that still have and use equipment from back in the 50's and 60's so there machine work may not be as accurate as othe shops that have kept up with the times and updated equipment.
