hi guys
I'm looking to buy a Quaife LSD, but I'm not sure If I need it and If it's a good investement. My car is a 95 GS-T and now produce more or less 280 HP, but I'm looking to install an EVO3 16G turbo and reach at least 350 hp. Which kind of time could I hope to expect in the 1/4 mile with street radial tires? It's dream hope to stay under the 13sec? I'll need also impession of driving from people that have installed an LSD on their FWD.

Thanks

James

I have been doing some research myself on this subject and quaife seems to be the way to go. You could go cheap with a phantom grip, but after around 300hp they seem to shatter and ruin your tranny. Buy the nice one and save some money in the process. Oh and don't waste your money on a 16g, go with a garret www.bullseyepower.com has some of the best turbos and they are bolt-on plus they design their own exhaust turbine housings out of steel instead of iron so they don't crack and they are designed to flow better that regular mitsu turbos. Get the 50 trim or v trim you wont be disappointed, guaranteed!

I agree. Don't F%&$ around w/ MHI, if you want a serous flowing turbo...w/ a decent spool.

But I've run an LSD insert for a long time now with not an issue at all. I suppose if I had an issue then it would crop up all at once and show no symptoms before an irrevokable return. But never theless. It has held up for thousands of miles on my 18G with he!!atious launches (i have something to prove around here w/ the old v8 guys).

Besides AWD, from what i've heard LSD is the way to go.

I' live in europe and find an awd is pretty hard and expensive(over 13000$ for an oem 2Ga or B if you are lucky)and send a dsm is also difficoult, this is the reason because i'm looking for an lsd.
anyway will I've got complete traction in the second gear with lsd and 350hp?

Get the Quaife and dont look back . . . I absolutely love mine and will forever have an aftermarket LSD installed in any other vehicle I buy from now on.

If you're into straight-line racing -- it's going to help with launches b/c you'll be pulling with both wheels instead of trying NOT to roast just one.

If you're into twisties -- it's going to help b/c you can apply power earlier coming out of the turns and since it's an ATB and does not fully lock, your turn-ins will not suffer.

Besides . . . Quaife has a lifetime warranty on their LSDs (except the ones used for the xfer case in the AWD) . . . does your 'phantom grip' have that? (didn't think so . . .)

A KAAZ or clutch style LSD has been proven to do better in straight line acceleration than a Quaife. I always have 2 black, consistant (no wheelhop) marks when attempting to burnout. Always! no matter if there are rocks on the blacktop, no matter if there are low/high spots, no matter if one wheel is over road paint. Doesn't a true lsd do the same in a straight line?

I certainly did have to adjust my driving skills while turning into the corners. You actually get oversteer (W/ a FWDOMG ) turning in with an insert. I found that letting the car do the work (because now it can), increased my speed coming out of the curve before the tires begin to bark.

Nope, mine is 1/5th of the price:thumb:

Like ^^^said qualife is great on roads, and daily driving and what not, and pretty good on the track, the KAAZ LSD is better on the track though, but its said to be noisy at low speeds and cornering(stuff like driving in a parking lot). And you wont roast your tires in second gear...unless you have more power then 350hp. If you had easier accesability to awd DSMs I would say get one of them but since you dont, just go with the qualife lsd.

I've just read somewere in the forum that the kaaz was beeter for the track and the quaife for daily, but I don't go often to the track, thats why I don't mention it:)

I don't know about that. I ran my 18g w/ no boost control (just a straight vacuum line to the wg actuator from the intake). About 7 psi. stock cams stock revlimit stock tune witha smallish fmic. Definately not 350hp. I still could burn for 20+ feet in second gear if I wanted too. Burn both tires up good! Weight transfer is a b!tch for FWD.

I agree with this. If you don't want to go insert. Then you can get an AWD shell w/ a tranny for less than a Quaife or KAAZ and have more traction than they could ever give you even w/ slicks!

KAAZ is better on the track? I'd say that depends on what kind of track it is. Drag track...maybe. Road race track...absolutly not. If you plan on doing any kind of spirited driving around twisty roads or on a road course I would suggest the Quaife LSD. If you're using a clutch type LSD like the KAZZ you'll have to compensate for the outside wheel being "dragged" around the corner (understeer) because both wheels will be forced to turn at the same speed. Unless all you're going to do is drag race your car...I would stay away from clutch type LSD's and stick with the gear type. Here...read this. http://www.optionimports.com/quaife.html

I can't imagine how incredible my GSX will handle when I finally get around to replacing both the front and center diffs with Quaife units...:D

watch-out with that center diff . . . they have been known to break and are not under warranty

All parts of the LSD are covered other than the housing. If the housing's damaged then Quaife will replace it and only charge you for the manufacturing costs. All other parts will be replaced free of charge under the warranty. Here... http://www.quaifeamerica.com/differentials/9B1_gear.htm
