Lowering Questions

I just put 18" ADR wheels on my car with low profile tires and it still doesn't look the way I want, so I have decided to lower it.

I don't want to do this cheaply, but don't want to spend more money than I need..
I know absolutely nothing about lowering and just was wondering what parts should I get to do a slight drop? I do not have a body kit or anything, and I would like it to still be easy to drive with, though I don't want a monstrous wheel gap..

I have 18" wheels also and just lowered it 2". Sits perfectly, I love the way it looks finally. Not too bad driving, either. I can still go over normal speed bumps without scraping.

The pictures is my gallery are pre-lowering, so don't go by those.

I bought the springs off a guy on here for $100 and changed them out myself, so that was my total cost. I have since gotten it aligned, but I need a rear camber kit to bring the rear wheels back into shape. It doesn't look too out of whack as it is right now though, so I'll just take my time in getting that camber kit.

So all I need to buy is a set of springs and a camber kit?

Yeah, that should be fine. That's the inexpensive way to do it. You can spend more money on coil-overs, shocks, etc. but unless you're looking for top-notch road-racing performance or detailed show-quality, springs and camber kit are plenty.

actually you don't need a camber kit ,you could just longate the upper or lower strut bolt hole and push or pull as close to spec as you can . they do have levels you attach to your wheel to make it easy.for the front . for the rear you can use washers between the hub and plate to correct camber and toe.+camber put washers up top ,- camber put washers on bottom . + toe use washers in front ,- toe in rear

I would use the Eibach Sportline! I had this drop on my other eclipse with Tokico Illumina's and 19's, it looked very nice. It is real low but the ride quality was great and the roads suck in PA. You could opt for the pro kit from them to but I liked the lower stance. I would get the camber kits offered by Road Race engineering, they send you washer and bolts you need to straighten the camber out and it is only like $90 bucks. I think you should spend the money to do it right b/c that is all b/w you and the road.

Are shocks important?

I want a good ride, I don't want this to be done the cheapest way..

What is a general figure for putting all of this on at a shop?

I had Sprint springs, KYB shocks and struts, slotted crossdrilled rotors and EBC brake pads installed for 700 bucks (including the parts of course). It was cheaper just to have it done all at once so as not to get charged 3 times for the labor since it overlapped (the wheels and everything were off anyways). With the Sprint springs you don't need a camber kit, just a regular alignment.
