A friend of mine and I did a compression test on his 95 AWD. All the car has is a downpipe and cat back+filter. To start off the car cranks over runs and drives awesome. With no noises or smoke at all. After the compression test we came up with 50psi on the #1 cylinder!! As for the rest here is how it went. 4(200) 3(200) 2(150) 1(50). I would think the car would either smoke or sound like hell but it sounds and runs great. After the test we then did a wet test with a capful of oil and made no difference what so ever. I know .. Get a leakdown test.... We're trying to just get around going to get one done for now. The car was fully warmed up btw. Please fill us in on why this car still runs so good? Thanks

If the wet test didn't increase compression likely a HG or bent valve (more likely HG since low #s on adjacent cyls). What does the plug in the affected cylinder look like?

As for it running well, well, it should run alot better at full compression ;)

The plug looks fine. Look exactly like all the other plugs. Why does the car not smoke at all?

could be a leak between two cylinders. My HG and rings went at about the same time so i had 80% leakage on cyl's 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 were ok wth about 12% leakage!! so it was definitly time for a rebuild.

I'm going to ask a stupid question, are you opening the throttle while cranking for the comp test?

Are you supposed to?

What? How does fuel not enter your cylinders when you open the throttle. BTW on a

if you pull your engine fuse you get no fuel no spark ...thats how you do it.

I sent the car out to get a leakdown test and it ended up being the HG. I ordered a HG thru A&A. Now I can tell the difference in how I thought it was still running good. Runs alot smoother/Faster now! Thanks for the posts :thumb:
