Loud Ticking Noise

When i rev my car i hear this loud ticking noise, it doesnt do it throughout the whole rpm band thought. Could it be a rod???? Sorry i know i really didnt narrow it down but thats all i know. I dont want to ruin my engine....

99% chance it is lifter tick.

Rods are more of a loud knock. Do a search on lifter tick.

Is it really loud and resemble a clack or growl? If you can better describe the noise and attempt to locate the general area the noise originates from.

when my engine overheated my valves and valve springs started making a LOUD clicking noise and i still havent bothered messing with it....

What you are hearing is lifter noise and is VERY common with DSMs. Get an oil change and put 3 Quarts oil and 1 quart of the best oil Stabilizer you can find. TRUST ME IT WORKS!!!!!!!! Remeber these are 0 tolerance engines, anything goes wrong internaly and you'll worry more about buying a longblock then a 'tick'.

It ticks at idle and its been doing it since i got it but it just started to do it all the time and it got louder. It only does it at a certain rpm also. Not all the time........

lifter tick doesnt happen all the time unless u got really crappy oil in ur car. Normally lifter tick starts up loud when u first start the car and goes away after a little driving.

Find out exactly where it is coming from in ur engine bay, idle it and stick ur ear up against everything to hear where its coming from.

I had a terrible ticking sound ALL THE TIME, and for a while i was under the impression it was lifter tick, finally i got so tired of it i found out exactly where it was coming from and it turned out to be a blown exhaust manfiold gasket cause the bolts came a little loose. That ticking never stopped since it was exhaust and the more i revved the louder it got.

But the ticking sound it made sounded just like the lifters. U just need to figure out where its coming from to tell what it is.
