Hey, I just bought a 94 talon tsi awd. It had a rebuild with maybe 100 miles since. I went to drive it home and it was fine, then I went to leave about a half hour later and it would make a loud knocking noise at idle. One guy told me it was the lifters and another told me it was the cams. Anyone have any knowledge of this problem and how to fix it?

Take a piece of tubing or a large screwdriver and place one end on the valve cover and the other up to your ear as the motor is running, you should be able to hear if it is the lifters, but they normally make a ticking sound, a knocking sound is usually associatied with connecting rods and or crank. I would venture to say that it is not your cams unless they were broke in half or the cam caps aren't tight, but that would cause seriuos idle issues. Hope this helps you out a little bit. Later
