OK guys heres the problem. Yesterday I swaped my fuel tanks. After I swap my tanks the fuel pump seems to be alot louder. At first I thought I just had a good ground now because I grounded the pump out right. Well everyone is freaking out on me and saying that theres soem thing wrong and im going to burn up my pump. Its a walbro 255 high pressure pump. Any ideas of what could be wrong? Its getting 12.60vs and a good ground from the car harness to the tank, but I haven't opened the tank because it's full of gas. Could it be a bad ground from tank to pump? Any other ideas?

I would think if you had a bad ground then the pump would not work at all.?. I have a 190 on my 90GSX and its whines pretty good. I can imagine what a 255 sounds like. Did the 255 sound that loud with your previous tank? Why did you change out tanks anyway?

I ended up pumping the gas into a gas can so I can open it up. I guess the seal job I did around my power line was garbage so I redid the line and when I went to hook up the ground it fell apart. The ground wire was so burnt out I ended up running about a whole foot of new ground wire because it was that burnt. Im not sure which it was that made the pump strain but now it sounds normal again. Im gonna do the rewire as soon as I move my battery to the hatch. Hopefully this info helps someone.

my fuel pump's been whining for the longest time, everyone gets on my case about it. Some say wow, and some people make me paranoid about it, i've been meaning to take a look at it, but it has been working fine,,,please let us know if your rewiring makes any the difference in noise level...thanks

Im pretty sure it's just a loud pump because now when the car has sat for a while (in process of stripping down for new paint job) when I start it up it whines until I shut it down and start it again. I don't get it, but It's still working and I'm getting all the gas I need to go so I guess this is where the if it aint broke dont fix it comes in.

i have two stock pumps and one of them are louder than the other. the louder one is in my car now and used to be rewired until it quit working. so i hooked it up directly to a toggle switch and it worked for about a week and then i guess i burned it up. im getting power to my toggle switch and im getting power to my pump. n e ideas? im kinda lost. im going to tap into my relay to see if it will fix it without burning it up.

how hard are you running the pump? Did you get a new fuelpump filter, if you dont put a new one in with a new pump you'll need a new pump in a good week.

do you mean the filter that is on the firewall? or the little oval see through thing that is attached to the pump itself. n e way, today at work i made new connections on my pump and it worked. so, the pump is not bad cause i can hear it. the prob now is that my car still doesnt start. i even tried my other pump and it worked but didnt start my car. i havent checked to see if the fuel is getting to the filter on the firewall.as far as running it hard, i turn my key to the on position and then flip my toggle switch and then start my car no probs. i took my car to the track the other night and ran it with a little under 1/4 tank of gas. maybe i got some junk in there from running it so low. the next day, i got to work but didnt get home. that is where it sits now. i am going to buy a new pump and possibly a new filter(on the firewall). how do i check the filter on the pump? when i pulled it out it still had gas in it. maybe i should just get a gas can and fill up my car with some more gas and try that.it still sits under a 1/4(being lazy)im running out of ideas. some one help me plz.:)

I have a 92 Ford Aerostar cargo van that i use to houl parts for my 90LaserRS and it sound like there is a cooling fan under the car when my gas is low.....just normal.
