Loosing Boost From Broken Exhaust Bolts???

My mechanice is telling me i am loosing boost because 3 of my exhaust bolts are broken?? have you guys heard of this happening? im a newbie so any infos mucho apreciated , thankx

You would definatly be losing boost if the three screws that you are talking about were from the exhaust manifold to the turbo. You would want to replace these as soon as possible. Yes, this is a fairly common problem. Since turbos create a lot of heat, heat causes things to corrode faster, and those bolts are one of the closest things to the turbo. I had one of my bolts break out from there aswell. Good luck fixing the problem.

If the mechanic means that three of the four manifold-to-turbo bolts or three of the manifold-to-head bolts are broken, then yes, you most likely have a large pre-turbo exhaust leak.

If possible, remove the three broken bolts and the stud on the mani/turbo and replace all of them with four brand new bolts. Don't bother with another stud; it's better to just trash it. Don't forget to get new cup washers for the mani/turbo bolts. There are two washers per bolt and the dots on the washers face in opposite directions.

Are we talking about turbo bolts or manifold studs on the head? Either way the answer is yes.
