What car are you buying?/did you buy?

I bought a 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSR-4. it's the one that was on Kijiji. mint condition and only 74k kms.

Need a 1g maf translator don't necessarily need 3 inch gm maf with it.Anyone got one for sale?

Is it black, with Megan exhaust, and boost gauge / controller? The one owned by Josh Davis?

That's the one! Do you know something about it I don't but should? LOL

Well, I know a lot about that car. I am (or i guess was) their mechanic. Whenever the car broke down (a lot) they called me up to fix it. I installed the boost gauge, MBC, exhaust, timing belt, etc.

Basically if you have any questions about the car let me know haha.

haha that's awesome!!

well since you did the timing belt and all, what do you think of the condition of the car?
I'm already hearing clicking noise while turning; I think it's either tie rod ends or front cv joints.
What have you all done to car? I saw in the car a piece of paper something about 3G revised lifters and other random stuff

The overall condition of the car was decent, but not great. I mean all in all its a 20 year old sports car that needs some lovin. Sounds like you need a new CV axle, but I didnt look much into the steering / suspension of the car, it felt pretty good, maybe a bit loose in the steering.

As far as the engine, they snapped a timing belt and bought a rebuilt head and installed it themself. I have no clue what they did or how they did it. Regardless, they liked to use cheap parts, so I would be a bit warry of the head gasket and head studs and such.

I redid their timing belt a week or two back, using a new (not oem) belt, OEM tensioner, and thats about it. Really they cut alot of corners and didnt want to toss out money to do things right. All in all nothing wrong with the car, just might have some gaskets start to leak in a while. Other than that the car is awesome, wish it was cheaper then I would have bought it just for the sake of having a rare DSM for the shoot out.

That sucks that they cut a lot of corners in maintenance. :( I'm really hoping for something to last and provide a good platform to start modding.
I also hope that cv will be the only suspension & steering problem for a while. That stuff adds up fast. I rebuilt the rear suspension on my AWD Talon (FS) and is was over $1600 all said and done.
As far as headgasket and engine stuff, I plan on putting a MLS headgasket, ARP studs, and other stuff in before going and throwing on a EVOIII 16G (which is what I want for this car eventually).

The car is pretty fun though and it's cool knowing your in an American built, Japanese Import Market, LHD car with some pretty sweet seat belts :p

Haha i saw that car before. Garrett got me to ship the mbc, boost guage, and exhaust to him. I remember how sweet those seat belts are.

so are you guys still coming up to SIR on Sunday?

yes that I know of. I think I would probably end up going on my own if everyone else cant make it. The weather network is saying +20, sunny, with 0% Precipitation for saskatoon on sunday!!

hey guys, I forgot to ask you a couple questions today.
1. I'm having boost creep issues, what would be the easiest way of solving the problem without a lot of work? Within the next year I'd like to get a different turbo setup anyway so I don't want to spend a lot right now.
2. Under WOT, my car sometimes hesitates making a jerking feeling, happened when I was running 3rd and 4th gear today at SIR but not 1st or 2nd. What could it be? Fuel cut from the boost creep?

Thanks

You will have to tell us more about your setup to help you. What turbo are you running? How big of an exhaust are your running? If it is a small turbo is it ported and is the O2 housing ported if it is factory? How much boost is it creeping to? Are you running any fuel management system and if so what injectors are you running? Any info will help us pinpoint your issue.

my profile is up to date, factory car with a 3" turbo-back exhaust. it will creep up to 18psi, but once i see it creeping, i let off so i don't know exactly what it will go up to. the exhaust is causing the boost creep, that I know, I'm really just wondering if I can get rid of the creep without porting turbo/O2 housing.

Yep it is pretty certain the boost creep is from running a turbo back 3” exhaust with that turbo. With no mods you would be hitting fuel cut around that boost level. If you are logging you could verify by looking at Hz and injector pulse width. You have a few choices to deal with the boost creep. Porting has you mentioned, keeping in mind even porting might not resolve the problem entirely using the 14b. Upgrade your fuel and management system so the car can handle 18 psi is another. You could change your downpipe to 2.5”. You probably know it is good that you let off at 18psi because with no mods your fuel system can’t deliver enough fuel and you are most likely knocking a lot. Sorry there is no 'easy way' to help the boost creep. The cheapest and easiest I can think of is putting the factory exhaust back on.

I had one more thought that worked for some guys in the past including myself back in the day. If you are not running a cat, then adding one sometimes adds just enough restriction to stop the creep.

Hey scott, did you put those videos on the internet somewhere?

who all have there dsms running and looking good???? if feasible thinking of a dsm night somewhere with everyone and their cars for once. before the snow falls

I have a 6 bolt block, there is a small sliver broke off where the tranny bolts to the block but I think should be still useable. Needs a full rebuild though.

anyone got an aftermarket intake pipe for sale?
